Rope clutch labels ?

Hi,

I've got 12 lines coming back to the cockpit through clutches and would like a way to label them. There are various packs of clutch labels available but none of them fit my needs, specifically I would prefer to have the reef luff and leech lines clearly identifiable as unavoidably they could not all be on the same side (eg luff lines are not all port and leech lines are not all starboard).

Anyone here found a good solution to this and care to share ?

I used DYMO label tape. (Actually it is a Brother machine) Black printing on white tape. Tape was 12mm wide.

Colours are good. BT uses 2 sets of 5 colours, 1 from the first set for the + wire and 1 from the second set for the - wire, giving 25 pairs.
1st set:
Blue
Orange
Green
Brown
Slate

2nd set:
White
Red
Black
Yellow
Violet

+1 another vote for this. 3 years of brother printer labels on the clutches, no fade or peel.

To the OP, you will need the printer type which uses laminated tape, usually sold as the gardening model. The ordinary tape produces labels which fade in uv

We had 14 lines and clutches on our Sun Legende 41 when we owned it. I colour coded the clutches using electrical shrink tube with each pair of reef lines in the same colour

Anyone here found a good solution to this and care to share ?

We had 14 clutches on the Sun Legende 41 we owned and colour code paired each reef set using electric cable shrink tubing, so say 1st reef luff and leech reef in yellow, 2nd set in red, third set in green or to choice, you could add a shorter bit in a different colour say black to differentiate between luff and leech reeflines. The shrink tube was also easy to write on with a ballpoint pen. I also used the pre-printed labels where they suite, like for kicker, furing line etc, but made some myself with a Dymo labeller. I had tried also when setting up the two line reefing back to cockpit system to match line colours in pairs, 1st reef green 2nd reef yellow, 3rd reef red. all other lines were not in solid colours but had included marker flecks (?) Easy then to say to a new crew/ helper, lower yellow fleck halyard, pull in yellow tack reef line, then winch in yellow leech reef line, re tighten yellow fleck halyard or something similar, expletives muted.

Used a Brother machine, labels been outside for months now ans
D no sign of UV degradation. Brother claim they are UV proof(ish).

Brother TZ tape, width and colour to suit.

+1, did mine three years ago and they're still ok. A couple of corners have lifted very slightly, but no sign of them peeling any further. My clutches have a shallow recess in the top for the label, but the tape I had handy at the time was wider. If I'd got the narrower tape and fitted it in the recess, even the minor lifting wouldn't have happened.

Another vote for one or other of the Brother machines. I seem to recall you can get 6mm tape, which is ideal for clutch labels, otherwise 9mm works on Rutgerson clutches with a little trimming. Lasts for years even in Med levels of sunshine.

Pretty much +1 from me too, I use a Dymo machine and Dymo plastic tape... Works well on GRP, not so good on the tops of the clutches themslves

These are the reverse engraved labels I have used.

A couple of corners have lifted very slightly, but no sign of them peeling any further.

Round the corners of the labels to stop the tendency to peel. It's the 90° on the corner that causes the problem.
My Epson label writer labels lasted 4 years before showing slight signs of fading. The black characters on transparent base give a good result.
