I'm getting a bit older now and having sold the Twister (good riddance to old rubbish) and dallied briefly with a Bavaria (good riddance to new rubbish) I'm interested in getting a proper boat. Are the Rodmans any good, particularly the Rodman 41?

MBY tested it last year I think. You could get a reprint from them. I think the R41 is a solid boat and was well priced although I dont know what the weakness of Sterling has done to its previous very competitive price

had a ride on the demo boat at last years boat show.Very very impressed. It was the basic hose down working/fishing boat version so no stupid (dirt magnet)white carpet or appalling (touch n scratch)fake shiney cherry faux woodwork,a real PRACTICAL boat that would see off many so called sports boats and floaty marina caravans.IMHO./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

I have an Astinor from a company started by the ex- boat designer from Rodman.

Naturally they are very, very similar boats and I can't really complain about the Astinor (Rodman), although she has been "abused" in very mountainous seas (and I mean, mountainous) and made me involutarily "salute" her for coming through them.

She's not so good in short choppy waves but I would feel "safe" (if there is such a thing) in this type of boat.

The boat I aspire to, though, (when I get the money!) is an Aquastar or a Dale Nelson.

Impressed as oldgit I went out in the 12,50 runs flat throught the turns solid build no frills in workboat fit out. even my 8 year old brought it back (under guidance) I wish I had a bit more money I would swap my princess for the upmarket 41.

Glad to see you are allowing your 8 year old take 'command' you can't beat starting kids young. By the time either of my boys were 13 they were quite capable of taking a Broom Ocean 37 single handed from up the Thames to Ramsgate or France and have done so too. (I was asleep in the stern cabin at the time)
