we have solid rod rigging on the boat, and over the weekend whilst we where doing a RORC inspection it is noted that your need to have the equipment to cut away the rigging, we have always had a hack saw and or a bolt cutter, but it was suggested that neither of these would be up to the job - somebody suggested a "rod gun" - I did a quick Google search but could not see anything obvious - anybody seen one of these or know where to get one

thanks

Google Shroud Shooter - several chandlers sell it. You could also look at Tuf tools, www.tuftools.co.uk, for a variety of solutions.
The Felco C-112 wire/rod cutter claims to cut rod to 12mm, to be sure there is the C-116. Available at many tool shops.
Hope this helps.
If you need a Loos rod rigging tension gauge we can help you more directly!

The thought of using a cutting disc in a drill really frightens me, esp. in extreme conditions. Battery angle grinder OK. But would prefere something with no power requirement.

If your replacing any of it, I'd get a rigger to do it.. They have the specialist tools required and may end up only replacing the turnbuckelscrews rather than the rod..

not replacing anything, just doing all the fastnet safety checks, I actually spoke to somebody that says he has had to cut away a rig the same spec as mine with solid rods and a hacksaw went through it no problem, or is he completely wrong - has anybody done this.
