River Roach moorings

I'm curious

Who, I wonder, is selling these "moorings"?

And what are they actually selling?

And correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that most of that area dries out at low water

And as Rog says, access from the shore could be tricky too

It was put on sale around October 2017 by David Barke “he of Essex Marina?”
When someone tried to get more information the agents were over egging the site saying there were enough room for 10+ moorings?
Also they were all in position “rooted in” and confirmed by GPS. When pushed that came down to the area was known and the coordinates were based on GPS readings not the moorings?

Price in the region of £20,000.00 (Hearsay)

Problem is no real depth of water at low springtides, Fishing vessels keep to the main channel to get into Barling, straight through the area.

No access except via paying the new owners at Pag an access fee?

Probably more answers to follow.

I wouldn't have thought there was room for ten moorings in the area indicated (this part of Potton Creek is known as The Violet, possibly because it was once owned by someone called Varlett)

As has already been mentioned, there is not much water hereabouts, particularly at LWS. And the fishing boats power up and down Potton Creek, coming and going from Barling/Wakering at all hours of the day and night according to the tide. Or at least they did during the 30-odd years that we kept various family boats at Paglesham. Most seasons someone's boat would take a hit, damaged rails and bent pulpits were to be expected...

For some years we had one of Ron Pipe's moorings actually in the River Roach just west of the area for sale, the other side of Barling Ness.

I believe the RSA folk who keep boats at Paglesham have negotiated with the latest owners to have access via the hard, not sure if they are allowed to use the pontoon. They also have use of a small piece of saltings with a bit of a landing place a little further along the seawall west of the old black shed.

However, any purchaser of these notional moorings would have a lot of negotiating to do if they want to park cars, leave dinghies somewhere and get on and off the shore. There might be limited access via Barling?

Spot on Jan.
RSA members have a long standing contract with the yard, with a shed (hence the Burgee) and dinghy standing at the wall.
Access is by the hard, not the pontoon (no Visitors).
All in all, not a viable proposition.
Shame really, but with the pub closing, it won't be worth visiting, but it is a nice place to spend a night or two.

Nice photo...

I had heard that the Punchbowl at Church End might be closing, but are you saying that the Plough & Sail is also to close?

Is the Plough and Sail closing completely?
Last time I went there for a pint, they wanted to know if I had made a booking. Not very welcoming to "walk ins".
Shame, Paglesham used to be a lovely little community and just the right distance for a morning sail from Burnham.
A few years ago I picked up a mooring near Barling Ness and asked a neigbouring yachtsman if he thought it would be OK. He replied that it was vacant and that it was a privately owned mooring, so don't let the yard bandit try and charge for it. A proper old East Coast gent.
There was obviously some friction there.

Sorry, you are right. Punch Bowl has planning permission submitted to convert to private house. Unpopular.

As I no longer live in the area, I haven't been in 2017.

I last went to the Plough and Sail a couple of years ago. Used one of the club/association mooring as recommended by another yachtsman but when i went ashore that yard bandit charged me to land!

The Plough and Sail still have a website up, for what it's worth http://www.theploughandsail.co.uk

When I've picked up a morning overnight in recent years, I've been left along by the bandit. But I did hear that they nab you on the hard, so to speak. Great way to drive away potential earning opportunities.
