I have a hankering to fit a Hellberg Rassy style rigid windscreen to my boat. Has anyone done this, or has anyone read any articles by someone who has done it?

Not sure about the HR design but I made a three section screen for my Colvic Sailor with a GRP top and incorporated a stainless frame to take the main sheet so that I could go below without climbing round that awkward lump of string!

Yes, I made my own GRP windscreen fitted with perspex windows & 10 years on, I wouldn't change it.

Spent a little time making a rough mock-up with hardboard, to obtain the right size, rake, visibility through the windows etc. etc. and then made a female mould on the boat itself.

Getting the mould home singlehanded via dinghy and Volvo was interesting. Then screwed two old household doors together to make a working base and laminated the screen directly into the mould. Well worth the extra bit of time to mould-in recessed windows rather than surfce mounting.

The cost was well under a £100 plus circa £200 for the hood and frames to finish the job.
