Riding lights

A simple solution that's worked for sailors for centuries. Still works just fine. Never flattens your battery. Cheap hurricane lamps (less than a fiver) will last a few years and then rust away, but who cares. Get another one.

Don't use expensive fragrant pastel coloured lamp oil. Get your paraffin by the gallon from a garden centre or the garden bit of a big DIY store. Just like Nelson did. (He used to got to his local B&Q for his, so rumour has it).

[/ QUOTE ]Better yet ! My cheap hurricane lamp was bought about 15yrs ago, and is now worth FAR more than it was originally. I have tried to find another with no luck. It is copper or brass and has lenses like a lighthouse, ie big fresnel magnifiers. It outshines all the electic jobbies and lasts and lasts and lasts.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
