Excellent, constructive suggestions: many thanks all. I think the Southerly range looks worthwhile and, if the pension does well then the Sirius yachts look perfect (the 35 would do very nicely). Great observations about having two different boats for northern sailing and the Med - I hadn't thought of that but it makes sense. Also very insightful about how many cabins are needed and the reliance on crew becoming an overhead. I think I'm in the "lifting keel + deck saloon" part of the market which doesn't give me a lot of choices, but there are very nice boats in that category.
