Does anyone have experience of replacing Lewmar 'superhatches' produced until 1987, with new 'ocean' ones. I believe from what I've been told, and from my own measurements ,that the new hatches are a different size to my appertures, due, in part, I think, to the older ones being non-metric. Any info appreciated. Lewmar are vague about this when I have enquired through a number of sources, saying the new ones will fit, but I have it 'on authority' that they don't!!.....

I strongly recommend you don't, unless the hatch frame is gone.

If it's just tarting up and changing the acrylic you want try:

Patrick Cole
Saltram House Services
Unit 8, Bartram Farm
Old Otford Road
Sevenoaks TN14 5EZ
tel 017324 64635.

He'll either sell you the bits to do the job yourself or come down to the boat and do the whole lot for you.
The cost will be about 40% of replacement.

I've just done mine in Roussillon.

thanks for that, I actually have them with a guy at the moment, he says the frame needs re-welding and that the handles are gone. As far as I am informed, we can only get a left hand handle from Lewmar, the handles being an astonishing £43..

Talk with Patrick - I got handles and catches for free from Bob Stevens of Lewmar - Patrick had all their redundant stock and he's very reasonable on prices.

I was passed onto Patrick by the guys in Lewmar who appear to have a high opinion of his integrity.
