Replacement washboard?

I have recently replaced the ply washboards on my boat with black 12mm acrylic from these people http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Acrylic-S...672?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item4aac5759c8
I rang them and they quoted for the size I needed, I cut it to shape using wood tools. A circular saw with a fine blade, and a jig saw both lubricated with a drop of paraffin and then polished the edges with wet and dry. I used masking paper over the cuts as it is easy to mark and to see when cutting and avoids chipping the edge.

My washboards are in two pieces and I cut the center join with the circ saw set to an angle.

I wrongly assumed that black would mean heavily tinted but it means black (no light gets through at all ).

I only bought just enough to do the job so was very careful with the measuring and cutting but it is easy stuff to work with.

I am very pleased with the end result and am now going to make a storage bag for them whilst sailing :D

While there are a number of suppliers who aim at the boat market, any decent local signmaker will cut the material to size and shape for you - and you have a choice of acrylic or polycarbonate. Worth having it machined by the supplier as they will get a good finish on the edges. I had my Bavaria washboard made in two. Lower one is 300mm and has shoot bolts to hold in place. The joint is machined at 45 degrees outwards and a teak batten attached to the upper board to cover the join.
