Removing thermocouple on Nelson Spinflo

We need to replace the grill thermocouple on our 3 year old Nelson Spinflo cooker but are struggling to remove it. We have pulled off the spade connection but can't find a way to disconnect the other end. The simplest route seems to be to remove the grill unit then remove thermocouple but the gas feed connection is locked tight, I've tried unlocking for a right or left hand thread but it won't move either way. Any advice on how to overcome this would be much appreciated.

Did the job two days ago, after removing the cooker from its gimbals. As you've no doubt seen, the thermocouple has a hex at its base. Hidden on the other side of the hole into which it's secured is a nut, hard to reach. After releasing the cable spade I turned the thermocouple hex a couple of flats to release tension on the nut, which was then relatively easy to undo. The thread is conventional, right-hand.

Thanks Mac, I hadn't seen the nut, hopefully that will solve the problem.

Very slight thread drift... but I was wondering if you fellow Nelson Spinflo users have a problem with the oven temperature ? Mine barely gets to Gas Mark 5 (200 deg ish)... never up as high as 7... I'm tempted to change the thermostat to see if that cures the problem, but thought I'd pick your brains first...

My brains are poor tools for this subject, but the galley magician reports no problems of the type you describe. Sadly she can't be retro-fitted, although perhaps the thermostat can.

Incidentally our grill thermostat went within six months of purchase. Spinflo suggested it might simply need cleaning (it didn't), but sent another at no cost without quibble.

Put a meat thermometer in there and see what it registers.

Try replacing the seals round the oven door - I used a kit for conventional ovens and did all 4 sides instead of the 3 as original.
The oven has been unrecognisably more efficient, if harder to close, ever since.

Never modify oven door seals! They are designed to let air in for efficient combustion. Making the oven more airtight will result in the production of CO when it is working, definitely not a good idea.
