Removing shower waste jabsco pump

These pumps have to deal with hair binding the mechanisms and congealed soap etc, a pretty hard life, perhaps time for a replacement?

Ive been reading favourable reports about the Whale “Gusher” pumps replacing the traditional shower sumps, apparently quite robust and no accumulated sump water odours to deal with.

Usually the reason for this is if there is air being drawn on the suction side. Usually caused by the intake filter bulb being cracked or broken (frost damage does this).
assuming the discharge side isn’t just pumping water into the bilge from a loose fitting that’s out of view ?

Dump it and replace with a 'gulper', as mentioned above.

I had a sump box with a standard bilge pump. Constantly getting blocked with hair etc, it was a real nuisance.

Replaced with a gulper and no more problems.

The only inconvenience is that it's no longer automatic. When you go to shower, you turn on the pump and turn off when finished. A very slight inconvenience than an almost weekly trip to the bilge to open the sump box and clean out the slime.

Absolutely no regrets.

As above we had the automatic Jabsco tupperware box, float switch and pump in the bilges that either stuck on running on air or off so flooding the bilges with soapy scuddy shower water.

Replaced it with a manual Gulper so you switch it on when you shower and then turn off afterwards. fitted about 7 years ago never touched sit since, best move ever.

Same as myself (posted above).

OP - Do it, you won't regret it. It takes 2 seconds to tell guests to turn on / off the pump when they're showering. It can also run dry so no biggie if someone forgets to turn it off. It does sound like a frog, though. A small inconvenience (Doesn't make any noise outside, just inside if the pump is close to you).

Just about to tackle mine so will get a gulper as this sounds so much better. Can you pump straight from shower waste to outside or does it need to go to a grey waste tank first? I don't have a tank and the old shower pumped outside so just checking this is ok before i purchase one.
cheers in advance.
