I removed the decals off my GRP cruiser this weekend, they peeled of with a gentle help from a hot air gun, but there's still a sticky residue left behind, I've tried white spirit which didn't touch it. I was told Acetone will do the trick but I'm having trouble where to get it.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Anywhere which does inflatable boat repairs - they use it to clean Hypalon and will usually sell it by the litre.

Try "Tar Remover" by Autoglym. Halfords and good car shops sell it. Not only does it remove tar bolobs from cars in the summer it will remove with no damage any residue left from those wretched sticky labels that shops put on and we spend hours trying to peel off. Wouldn't be without it.

Yellow pages for "fibreglass", laboratory suppliers, any chemist (even B**ts) can order it in for you.
I buy from a fibreglass and resin supplier 5 litre can at a time.

Be careful over the grade. You want GP grade, not reclaimed and not analyar but general purpose.

Reclaimed or recycled is about 1/2 the price of GP which is about 1/2 ~ 1/3 the price of analyar grade.

Not suggesting that you use Nail Polish, but isn't Nail Polish Remover Acetone? Might be easier to get and cheaper.

Regards, Jeff.

Trust me acetone is cheaper than nail polish remover and does not contain lanoline or scent or moisturisers

You can use 'brake cleaner' from halfords etc, its a spray can, and will remove sticky residue. also good for cleaning brakes...
