I have been told that Blondie Hasler finally retired to the west coast of Scotland. Does anyone know where he lived, did he keep a boat and where he was buried?
I don't know the answers to your questions but you've reminded me that there is a little boat at Kilmelford called Jester - lovely little wooden cruiser sadly fast deteriorating which I am told was the first Jester.
Blondie Hasler retired to Scotnish farm by Tayvallich,Argyll.
He kept a junk rigged Kingfisher 20 with which he cruised the West Coast. It was he who laid out the white painted stones marking the leading lines through the narrow passages and into the inner `sanctum` of West Loch Tarbert,Jura.
I met him a few times in Tayvallich when I had a Cox 21 Yacht on a mooring there. He insisted she was `made ` for junk rig.My mate/crew had the sole distinction, whilst windmilling about in the hard tender, of ramming him amidships, making him spill his cup of tea. The resultant roar blew my mate and the tender back across the harbour.....
I believe the original Jester had to be abandoned and sank in the Atlantic.
Cheers
Pete.
Nice to see you're over the lovers tiff /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif I reckon you were very naughty swearing at his mum /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
I believe that the last article he wrote for YM related his experiences of circumnavigating Jura in the junk rigged kingfisher in truly awful weather...it advanced his (and thus the readers) understanding of using that particular rig in severe conditions ,perhaps more than he had ever experienced with Jester.
I don't know if it was his first or not, but the junk rigged folkboat called "Jester" was sunk in the Atlantic....a second "jester" is still going strong. I saw it in a boatyard on Haylng Island last winter.
I wonder how pleased she will be that you've just told the world about her private number?
p.s. Welcome to the forum, but please be a little more subtle about privacy. (The only exception is when a forumite has made more posts than Powerposter.)
