Refleks Heater

I have a small Refleks heater, but am having problems getting it to work properly. Anyone out there that has experience of trouble-shooting these heaters? They seem to have a great reputation, so maybe it's user error!

There's not much to go wrong with them. What kind of problems?

Are you getting a flow of fuel to the burning chamber?
Is the level control valve functioning properly?
Are you pre-heating enough?
Do you have enough length of flue?

That just about sums it up.

Not getting enough fuel through. I've jury-rigged it by loosening the mechanism and lifting it slightly with a screwdriver, which lifts the vertical fuel control pin up some more. Then it runs OK. It's as if the fuel is too thick, so needs a bigger hole/slot to pass through. (I've drained some fuel off and it looks OK.) So it's the level control valve that seems to be the problem. And it was all working fine in the summer.
