Decided to get my tender overhauled rather than buy new.
Eurocraft of Leyland are replacing the valves and providing an inflatable floor.
I was very impressed by their service and prices.
I need an engine so will be looking for the bracket which allows one to be used on the Avons stern tube.
I have seen these advertised but need to know if I own a Redstart, Redcrest or Redshank?? how can I tell? is it size? (no there is not a label on it!!)
Any clues please??

When you find out

could you let me know, as I also want an o/b bracket for my ancient rubberduck. I think mine is 8ft and is therefore a Redstart. It has had twenty years of incredible abuse at my hands, and was no spring chicken when I acquired it.

It is size!

Redstart: 8 feet long
Redcrest: 9 feet long approx
Redshank: Longer than 9 feet - can't remember exactly.

There is a posting on St Helier Yacht Club's forum advertising a bracket for sale. Although dated in September, it may still be for sale. Web site address: www.sthelieryachtclub.com

As per Adverts ...

Redstart : Length 2.44m, Beam 1.31m, Max HP 3hp
Optional Outboard bracket fits both Redstart and Redcrest
No wood transom

Redcrest : Length 2.74m, Beam 1.48m, Max HP 4hp
Optional Outboard bracket fits both Redstart and Redcrest
No wood transom

Sorry don't have Redshank listed but do have Rovers ..... but these are wood transom and therefore don't need brackets.

FYI - Some years ago I bought a s/hand bracket and then it didn't matter as the size was for both Start and Crest ..... sadly its on last legs now ... as its the old mild steel type. The later type available now are fibreglass and about 65 quid + ......

Re: As per Adverts ...

Replacement avon type brackets are available from Polymarine for £60 including vague additional tariff. Their website is however utterly useless for doing anything other than ordering a catalogue, unfortunately. The catalogue lists three sizes of bracket, using the tube diameter (12", 13" & 15") as the reference.

cheers,
david

Bought a second hand one from One stop chandlery Hatfield Peveral in Essex. They did have others but you will need to know which way around your fixings are .
Sorry dont know their number off hand but a quick search with yel.com should give results.

Redstart has the rope handles along the tubes that are only attached at each end (i.e. two points of attachment)
Redcrest has the rope handles with three points of attachment (i.e. an additional one in the middle)
Don't forget boat jumbles for outboard brackets. At Netley in October there were several in various stages of condition including a couple of stainless steel ones. If you can wait you should be able to pick a stainless one (infinitely superior) for less than the price of a new steel one.

Many thanks for all the comments and advice.
The tender is certainly one of the smaller ones, I will measure it up when it comes back from repair.
Thanks again

Thanks; so I have a RedCrest!

Anyway, it has served me very loyally and it deserves a birthday, with new valves and the bits that are starting to flap in the breeze re-attached!
