Red Diesel

That effectively means France is off limits unless you buy a Tank FULL of red before you leave and keep a receipt showing 100% duty paid :(

But we are not allowed to use red diesel for propulsion. Only non propulsion, hence the 60/40 ?

As far as I am aware and understand, the 60%/40% split was a non confrontational agreement with revenue that "we" the boat users, pay full duty on the 60% for propulsion and a lower rate for the 40% for heating and generation of electricity. but it still remained red, because to change the whole infrastructure to give "us" white fuel oil was too costly to implement.

and of course you can burn me down in flames if this is wrong.:D

As I understand it you are right. There was talk of us having to pay £1,000 to have our tanks and fuel systems cleaned to get rid of red dye. No doubt sellers would have to pay large sums for cleaning as well.

From the little that can be learn 't from the EU communication, it's the red dye they are objecting to, not 60/40.

About time our gutless wimps in Whitehall stood up to the EU. The commission won't object to any state prosecuting red diesel users, that's France and the CI's out then. And bout time the bloody frogs remembered who won Trafalgar!

Yep; they don't give a stuff about whether it's duty paid or not; the line seems to be if it's red you're fined €10000000.

Don't see why the CIs are out though; they're not part of the EU.

You have to go through French waters to get to the CI. Unless anyone knows a way round it.
Could go West and approach Guernsey from the West, I guess, have to look at charts to see. A long way round though, from most of South Coast.

Just had a look at charts. Can't go the way I was suggesting, the French claim an area all round Guernsey and Alderney.

They can claim all they like. I suspect it would be impossible to enforce. On of those times where if a French vessel came up and started issuing demands a Mayday Pirates Masquerading As French Offcials might be worth sending:-)

Withdraw from the EU and revert to our previous relatively sensible tax regime. or tell the French they are not to be obstructive.
Going to Belgium is presumably an option?

"Where is the RYA these days ?"

Lots of assumptions, however not a single word from the actual text, which could be about free marine diesel for everyone in the south east of england all we know ?

it does dye the diesel blue, but it does not alter the covert chemical tracer which lies beneath the cosmetic red.

not arguing Geoffs as I dont know, more thinking aloud really but............

Surely they cant fine you unless you try to land the red diesel.
Otherwise they could stop every container ship passing through their waters and demand VAT on the goods before they land in UK .

That's a fair point, Pete. I don't know either.

I do know I don't trust the um....perishers. I hefty fine or seizure of vessel, I don't think we can rely on any support from our gov.!
