"The "red pumpos" are already in place it is the pumps for the MOBOs that will cost. As for erecting a hanky on your flybridge - won't wash - all tied in with SSR - -oh not registered - no red diesel for you my lad cough up full whack."

So we now have compulsory registration do we?

"id I hear a rumour that red would still be available for yachts (sailing variety) on production of SSR papers showing entitlement?"
What wall raggies will have to register as well?

"God idea I think - tax all the stinkies and mobos off the water - raggie power rule!"

Yes - that would inlcude lifeboats and all the mobos that commonly rescue raggies wouldn't it? :)-

I agree the ruling is that there should be harmonisation with the EU:

2 points, 1. Which collection of the 350million euroites do you harmonise with?? if they aren't all harmonised why are we harmonising? You can't harmonise with an unharmonised group. We are currently unharmonised so are they so lets all stay unharmonised!

2. Blair (Spit) and Brown (Spit) both pontificated straight after UKIP gave them a kicking at the last Euro elections. In an attempt to nullify Kilroys arguments, they both said, "There is no need to harmonise with Europe!", check the speech texts. If they both say this, why are we signed up to this crap?

I think the UK is signed up to lots of things on the EU that it does not implement.

After the EU ruling on not being obliged to provide evidence to the police so that they can prosecute you ... I tried to refuse to say who was driving after being caight on a camera - the letter form the police explained that whilst this was European law, the UK had not enabled it yet ..... why not the same for the diesel tax.

The entire EU is not harmonised so pretending to harmonise is just taking part in a mad hatter's tea party. Its absurd.

1000 signatures may not be a huge number but at least the government are duty bound to give a formal response to a petition with over 600 signatures, so we might at least register on their radar. In fact MBM's petition has already been quoted by one MP in a recent House of Commons debate on the issue, so it is having some effect.

For the record we did have a computer on our stand at Southampton and a huge poster encouraging people to sign up to the petition. Unfortunately, the screen was pretty hard to read in daylight and people only seemed interested in winning the free fuel rather than fighting to keep the tax at bay!

Ok so a 1000 does mean something then.

Didnt see the screen at all when I was there but then I did spend most of my time on the PBO stand. Did a subscription though.

Any way of giving an incentive to get more people to sign like a draw for

1st prize 10 bottles of Soltron
2nd prize 5 bottles of Soltron
3rd prize 2 bottles of Soltron

Then it would be regarded as a lottery and not a petition.

Most yachts are already registered as they do travel abroad or have more aspirations to do so in the future. Most raggies dream of escaping of sailing to far flung places, it is the nature of the sport. Before someone jumps in, yes many MOBO's will have some similar dreams, but not to the same extent, most seem as happy to cruise within their fuel range. You cannot cross Oceans in an average MOBO. So SSR for mobo’s is less prevalent.

Just out of interest. If HMG tries to justify the tax on heavy fuel usage, 30 galls per hour is IMO disgraceful for transporting two or three people. How many would accept fuel restrictions based on vessel size. For example a 24ft boat can have 350 gals per year rising per foot. (this is an example, please don’t start arguing over the figures)

At least it would show a willingness to preserve fuel which seems to be declining, wells are currently pumping at full whack and there is not enough to go around. I sometimes feel the powerboat fraternity are oblivious to the ecological problems on the planet.

I have signed the petition, but I would I am sorry to say, welcome a gradual increase in price, but only to force engine manufactures to adopt a little more care in their designs and eek out more power for less fuel, presently it appears to be in freefall that wont stop until the customer starts shouting for their boats to use less fuel.

Ok understand about the lottery thing.

I think leisure boaters are the tip of the ice berg. Its like restricting anglers who fish of their boat to only so many fish a year when the real culprits are the trawlers who have sorted out their catch and kicked the rest of what they have already caught their quota on over the side dead.

In the same instance there are fuel users who waste tons of the stuff all the time. Planes flying half full, freighters half empty, too many cars on the road with one person doing the same journey as the person next door. Where does it stop?

Maybe you could limit the fuel per boat but then most would probably be within their quota and the one that werent would be looking to use the other peopleswho havent used theirs.

Or they would be queuing up at my offshore tanker to get a fill without affecting there quota /forums/images/icons/smile.gif

I have put a short questionnaire in the MBM red diesel forum. Please do not regard it is anti motor boat, that is not my viewpoint at all. I just have an interest in the planet and would appreciate some other views.

Please do not get aggressive (Gludy), this as I have said has no particular agenda, treat it as a conversation at the bar.

I have answered your questions however, I dont see what your trying to achieve.

If it was proved that sail boats were harmful to the environment would you sell yours?

A good and very difficult question.

I would like to think in the short term I could do something to make it less harmful. For example, I have just bought new sails which I am very happy with, lets say the new materials used are found to cause problems to the atmosphere.

Even though I have spent upwards of £1600 I would hope I would be big enough to remove them and suffer the old sails again while I save for replacements less harmful.

Would I stop using the boat, I don't know, I would like to stand here all self righteous and say yes, but in honesty probably not. But I would as said above try to carry out any modification to my sailing habits or boat that I could afford to to make things better.

My questions are for my interest, I am just wondering among the fights if anyone considered other aspects and how they feel.
