My tanks contain only red diesel, bought in the UK and with a declared 60/40 usage.
If I take my boat to Eire, will I have problems?
If I need an official declaration (other than the 60/40 receipt I hold) where do I obtain it?

I don't think it's such an issue there as in some other countries. I've never had a problem and would only take fuel receipts for the red I carry. Don't have red in cans, just in case.

An American yacht and owner took the Danish government to court over this. The EU states it is not allowed in leisure yachts and this guy had marked diesel in his tanks and was fined, despite fuel samples, traceability of all fuel bunkered and the fact that he was transiting. He won the case and was refunded. I don't know if such a case in one country sets precedents in another EU country, but the interpretation of the rule must have been in the yacht owners favour for the conditions he entered the EU.

In Ireland the untaxed ( or at least reduced tax)diesel is green is it not?
It is a very faintly green here now, It was red in the past...at times it can be hard to see that it is MGO rather than white if it is in a container..

I very much doubt any Irish customs man will care if you have red diesel in your tank or not..

Indeed I think the less excise you have paid to the UK government the more he may be endeared to you...😊😊

Green (lower tax) diesel is still allowed in leisure boats despite EU regs. Nobody will care (or check) whether it's red or green

marked diesel is not allowed in Ireland but nobody is checking as it would cost too much to enforce the rules, you would be very unlucky to be checked by the customs unless you are up to something dodgy,

From "a harbour master";-
Diesel for leisure craft in Ireland has changed to White Diesel back in 2021, the Diesel pontoon dispenses White Diesel and receipts state this. We get many UK visitors each summer season and there are no issues over diesel on this side. If you want to send on your phone number, I can give you a call to discuss.

Last time I bought diesel, end of 2021, it was green. Maybe they had still to empty their tanks............

It's still available,

But meant only for non propollusion use and for fishing boats and farmers etc...I use it in a digger and it's perfectly legal to keep it in Jerry cans or connected to a heater or generator, just can't have it piped to a propollusion engine...

Red diesel is restricted in use in the UK with only leisure and fishing boats farmers and domestic heating use allowed .
Except in Northern Ireland boats use white diesel for propulsion as they do in Eire.
The UK construction industry uses white diesel since last April.

One point to be aware of if sailing near NI. Laundered fuel (fuel that has had the dye removed) can be very bad on your engine, due to the use of cat litter in filters, this can leave fine abrassives in the fuel which destroy the pumps and injectors...so in those places I would only buy white fuel from the dearest mainstream service station....

Cat Litter will only reduce the RED dye ... it does not remove the Yellow Marker - which is chemically detected by C&E ......
