We know its summer when we don't need a thermal balaclava, just a regular beanie will suffice.
The juxtaposition of this reality compared with the advertising showing yachting to involve blue skies and semi naked women stretched out on a 40footed slicing through the waves….🙂

Back in the early 60s we raced a lot at Burnham with the odd cross channel trip. It rained and occassionaly shined, but we must have been much hardier back then. Duffles and anoracks worked OK + bouancy aids if it was really blowy.
On one pleasent sunny day, our guard was down and we accidentaly gybed just before the finish line. Lost a crew OB, had to quickly double back and retrieve him, so got a second gun. Don't think we lost a place. The MOB was of US decent and wore a baseball cap. Well...there were comments... Hilarious(sort of..) looking back. Quite a few people with views that distastefull back then and they voiced them.
