With a weight limit of 1000kg, you are limited to River type boats with smaller outboard engines. Have a look for Shetland or Norman, but at that size you wont find much in the way of creature comforts.

Anything with an inboard will be far too heavy, even a small Sealine 195 is over 1200kg without trailer.

Thanks. Perhaps I am better looking for a trailer-sailer!

id expect the best things to look at would be one of the outboard powered fisher types ie quicksilver jeneaue or one of the walk around scandanavian types
most trailer sailers have heavy keels which will take them overweight Id expect a McGregger to be way too heavy

Just a reminder, the towing limit that your car has is the "GROSS WEIGHT" or total weight inc trailer, boat and all the clobber you put on board.... so that will reduce even further the boat weight you can choose from ...

Many years ago We used to tow a Sealine 195 to the Med every year behind a 2 litre Sierra with no problems. Obviously way over your 1 Ton limit but is this your constraint or the Zafira limit.

Zafiira limit for towing is 1500kg but I don't want to tow more than 1200kg to keep to the old rule of the towed vehicle being only 80% of the towing vehicle's weight. This will allow for extended towing to France, etc. I have previously towed caravans onto the cross channel ferry and it was no fun getting the combo up the ramp to the higher deck.

I think you'll need to allow more than 200 kgs for a braked trailer with 1,000 kg capacity, probably twice that.

Its never been a rule, just something the caravan club came up with years ago. With improvements to cars performance and braking over the years I wouldnt worry about it. A Zafira should be able to tow the full 1500kg easily. getting it back up the slip way, however, could be interesting.

We were surprised to find that the towing limit on our 2.8 litre Sierra (XR4I) is only 1300kg.

Mind you it probably wouldnt be the best for clambering back up a slipway with a boat on the back!!

An XR4i ! thats a rare beast these days, mind such is progress a 150bhp Zafira diesel would probably embarress it now.

The Zafira wouldnt have quite so much sideways action though :D

That 80% rule I think was for unbraked trailers up to 750kg other than that you are limited by your licence. Ie after a certain date (think that was when the new photo licence came out) you are limited to 3500 gross

Could always buy mine boat 1500kg trailer 600kg 21' searay with cuddy cabin

Indeed.

Traction, torque, low 1st gear ratio and a heavy duty clutch (or auto transmission) are key words, all pointing in the 4wd direction.

Once on the road, trailer balance (load on hitch) when laden is key to get a stable drive.

...you being an ex-raggie an' all, I thought I would suggest one of the best boats ever made, the Albin 25' motorboat.

Very seaworthy, cross the channel no probs, they have been across nearly every ocean.
15nm/ gal at 7 kts with 20hp, 10 kts cruise with the bigger 38hp diesel
Very cheap to buy, over 2000 produced.
Little bit heavier........but still a light trailer boat.
Same hull. Available as motorsailer.

Not really, alone the 2.60m width makes it impossible. A weight of 1600 kg dry without engine excludes it from the OP request and a keel design would make trailer launch and recovery somewhat awkward in most slips.

General:
Albin 25 is a motor model that was designed by Per Brohäll and was built between 1968 and 1978 by Albin Marin's factories in Kroksvik outside Kristinehamn, Sweden. It sold over 2500 copies in ten years. The model was first fitted with a Albin AD-21 engine at 22HP. But it had a bigger engine of 36 horsepower, in the late '70s in the form of a Volvo Penta MD 17C, which gives the boat a cruising speed of 6-7 knots.

It is 7.6 meters long (25 feet) and 2.60 wide with a depth of 70 cm.
