recomended places for work on boat in Turkey?

Just looking for some info for some friends of ours who want to get some work done on their boat in Turkey. They want to leave thier boat on the hard for 3 months and hopefully get some work done on the prop'shaft/prop when they are back in the States. Seems they have some serious vibration problems and are not sure if its the folding prop or flex in the shaft (2m long!).

Also, we are heading for Alanya in September, and would like to get hauled and scrubbed off to the gel-coat and then prime and antifoul ready for the Red Sea. Does anybody know of reliable & cheap places for the haul out and perhaps some local labour to help scrub back?

My boat is in Finike but unfortunately I could not recommend the technical team with such work. Paint team is ok but some of the other teams are poorly skilled and then with European prices.

PM me for contact details of Nigel in Gocek. He runs a yacht management company there and is a highly competent engineer. Tends to use Port Gocek yard facilities so not the cheapest but reliable.

Geoff Pack, a former editor of Yachting Monthly, and an avid cruising sailor, said that antifouling should not be removed until such time as it had formed a step big enough to use to climb aboard! As long as it is still firmly attached to the hull, I tend to agree - after-all, modern antifouling doesn't "wear out" - whatever anyone says!

We are in Alanya at the moment and athough the hoist is working and boats are on the hard there's not much activity yet. Most of the buildings are still shells. The previous Kemer manager, Hassan (who everyone seemed to like) is the marina manager here. The Technical services manager is also from Kemer. There is a bit of a sea running and the "temporary bridge" from the pontoon broke away last night! We hope to winter here but there is still lots and lots of work to be done!
We have just wintered in Kemer, you can work on your boat but the Techinical Services have reverted to London, Paris and New York prices combined!! Winter rates have also gone up substantially and rumour has it that they are overbooked for next winter. The Marina is owned by the Turkiz Hotel which is up for sale and it could be they are trying to make books look good. We were charged near 600€ for lift out (nearly double Spain and not the quoted price when we arrived) and even paid 18€ (special price) to move the chocks!!
As for the chandlers at Kemer...........Now unfortunately they have just opened a branch here. With the same guy!

Hi We've been in Turkey for several years and have had work done by several contractors. Nigel in Gocek is highly recommended (looks after friends 45'er and gets no complaints but Gocek is not cheap for a haul out) but if you want a good alround professional job with reletivly cheap haul out & yard fees try Demir Marine in Marmaris yacht marine - I've used him in the past & nothing appears to be out of his reach, and he's a really nice guy - http://www.demirmarine.com/
