Re: Steve 101

Well so far so good! Havn't got banned yet for mentioning the name!

But (Tsch- starting a sentence with a conjunction), and I must have missed it, what exactly was his crime? Sorry to appear like the deffard at the feast but I really did miss it.

Coulkd you supply some "For instances..."

Just to satisfy my curiosity of course. I'm quite accustomed to living in a nanny state and taking Authority's word for everything.

Re: Full details

Steve came here with praps 2 much experience of other forums, i think.

he was new to boating, and had grand plans of moody 38 sailyboat with loads of extras. Much hilarity discussing these.

BUT, one or two sed look for crying out loud this is silly you just DO NOT need this or that, and suchlike. And so along the way, partly with late night imbibing, steve101 had a pop at them eg "what exaxctly is your problem" and otyher more direct stuff via PM - sort of hit-and-run.

imho, s'butt should (and does) behave as though in a pub lounge, praps MBC as though in the saloon bar, with occassionally swaps to and fro. But either way, one has to behave as though the guy is right there, not exploit the fact that s/he can't lamp you one. Unfortunately (cos he had good stuff to say) Steve101 didn't restrain himself, and kim (for the 1st time i think) got his axe out.

If MBC is the saloon bar, you must be the Lounge Lizard, surely!

Steve,

Not that you've EVER had breakfast at Tiffanys ... Perhaps you ought to read both Le Canard Enchaine and Proust - Your post infers that you are a tartuffed Tartuffe - And you said it.

Err Some confusion here Nigel

I may not have had breakfast at Tiffany's BUT I HAVE had breakfast just across the road - will email you a picture when I find it.

Since I wasn't referring to MY dealings with Madame only Steve101's (as you know I've severed all contact with the Powder Room) , I find the references to H-P Gassier & Proust just a tad confusing.

Please elaborate.

Best wishes

as always

Steve

But this "YOU'RE SILLY" line is like a red rag to the High Achiever / A-Type / Driven Personality / Belbin "Shaper" (pick your jargon/psychologist) that Steve 101 plainly is. He didn't get where he is today (Stafford) by listening to everyone who put him down.

The other approach was to welcome him, say "great" to his enthusiasm and nudge him gently away from some of the more misguided and misinformed ideas: Result -the surreal dream of the most over-extra'd brand new Moody 38 in history has been replaced by an achievable aim: 2nd-hand Bav 36, do the RYA practical courses and take it from there.

You're being very kind. He struck me as having not the faintest interest in sailing but a great deal of interest in on-line conversation and showing off. If that's what psychologists call a high achiever they've done some funny experiments. Why did he need to tell us he was Sony's 4th biggest play station games customer? This bulletin board (or however you'd describe it) is read and posted to by succesful doctors, lawyers, engineers, businessmen, writers, journalists and I've no doubt there will be an accountant or a VATman out there somewhere ... no one needs to beat you over the head with it because their interest on this board is 'sailing'.

I think you are right!

I think you are right , lots of peops on this forum are in envy of others success, or are in awe ,of the few who they belive to be succesful .
Billskip and I checked out the time most people post ,mostly 11.00am or lunch time. Office workers and employed staff .I think Steve 101 may have been ahead of the game over these people who talked down to him , instead of being helpful .
On the other hand how do we know that Steve was succefull it was only his word for it .Even so I still think the former applies, imho cheers bob t

Gentle reminder...

...before history gets rewritten that the ban had nothing to do with the sparky debates about this and that, nor Steve101's business status, nor anything else of that ilk. It was to do with the fact that he was gently asked to tone down some of his wilder responses to non-related issues, many of them posted in the early hours, and he eventually responded by quite deliberately pushing for a complete ban through the mechanism of sending aggressive and abusive PMs and posts that he knew would leave us little choice.

I'm very sad about that; the ban button is used extremely infrequently here but if Steve101 is intelligent enough to steer his company close to the top of its respective pile then he is intelligent enough to understand what does, and doesn't, work here.

Canonisation of Steve101

As a much lapsed Catholic, I seem to remember there is a stage en route tocononisation; can't remember its name.

Anyway, Steve101 should be given that status. Unless, of course, Kim decides to let him have another life.

Re: Full details

If I'm being too kind, I can think of worse faults. He reminded me of a guy I met in the yacht club bar once - just sold his business (YC gossip says for £15M) and was devoting his life to serious Rest & Recreation. So he had on order the alliterative combination of Sigma, Sunseeker and Cessna.

I'd met a few people like that who've discovered sailing later in life and were jumping in with both feet. So I took Steve 101 at face value while others saw his posts as trolls. As I look in on this site from home not work I can't comment on his posts that were posted and pulled during the day.

He's down in Torquay sailing at the moment. Given the forecast, I'm not sure how that fits with his being "not interested in sailing".

I hope that Kim doesn't let him back in.

He was over the top and now he's gone over to BYM. I hope he stays there.
