I would not buy a RS150Eeek, so essentially my RS125 receiver has self-destructed by design.
Can someone confirm that if I fork out £250 for an RS150 I won’t have the same issue?
If the OP does not have a STNG network, fitting a RS150 GPS adds another £100 plus to the cost. so £350 plus for a GPS.The RS150 is a very good GPS antenna. It connects via SeatalkNG so plug and play if you have a backbone and compatible with later plotters should you upgrade. Not all GPS antennas are the same - you need to consider performance and reliability as well as cost. Given it's one of the most important bits of kit on a boat it's worth doing some research.

Any future upgrade from an E120W would almost certainly have inbuilt GPS.
OMG
Interfacing a Raystar 130/150 GPS Sensor to an E-Series Classic MFD (E80, E120)
This sort of thing makes my blood boil.
The engineer that created all this self-destructing equipment is probably now the Sales Director.
Why are there all these different and incompatible protocols flying around inside my boat?
Built-in GPS is often not reliable so personally would always prefer an external antenna.
You can pick up a new RS150 for £200 if you shop around and a used backbone for £50 if you haven't got one which again can be used in a future upgrade. Obviously more expensive than an NMEA0183 antenna but each to their own.
Raymarine, innit !
So, any other GPS sources onboard ? Do you have an AIS or VHF that has GPS ?
Use of an NMEA 0183 GPS receiver is officially supported by Raymarine.
I've seen odd reports of internal GPS losing signal, but never had the issue on anything i have installed. I'd suspect those with problems have them installed in locations that are unsuitable for a reliable signal.
As you say, each to his own.
Was just a though, if you did have another source you could have wired that up using NMEA 0183I don't think I do.
No AIS.
And the VHF is a Raymarine RAY240.
The Axiom 12 will also fix the problem, cost a bit more thoughWell the NMEA option looks to be the cheapest fix.
But of course, now I am also browsing the Axiom 12.
