How do you display ETA and distance to destination on the screen when you are following a route? I've checked the manual and cannot find any reference to this

I don't have my manual handy, and haven't used this function in many months, but I thought it was on the navigation page that shows your cross track error on the rolling-road type display?

You cant. Well if you look up the route you can in a pop up box, but you cant put ETA, TTG or miles to go to destination in any permanent box, bar or overlay data.

The new and old ones are the same.

I have moaned to raymarine and they say it is "on the list". Has been for years so dont hold your breath.

correct indeed - which is why I will buy Garmin next!

The only way to to this is

Route

Select the route and show the way points

At the bottom of the screen make sure you select ACTUAL as the SOG figure and it will give you and ETA.

The ETA is also not transmitted over NMEA so other instruments cannot display it either.

Daft!

Yep. But as it is in a pop up box the plotter is useless. Have to keep cancelling it to use the plotter and going back in.

Must be such an easy fix but they cant be bothered.

My usual routes tend to have a long leg and some little bits at the end, I hadn't spotted the eta is only to next waypoint, as when I'm nearly there I'm not usually looking at the plotter - I am enlightened, thank you

Apologies for the thread drift but has anybody else had problems with the E120 constantly rebooting? Mine does it, sometimes once or twice an hour, other times literally every few seconds, the latter happening most recently before we left the berth. It's had a reset and software update. My electronics expert says that if it has to go back to Raymarine, a repair might cost over £500.

I'm unimpressed with Raymarine kit; the autopilot hydraulic pump has failed after less than three years. I'm told that it's the electric motor that has failed but it's not possible to buy the motor on its own.

If it keeps rebooting eratically it could just be the power connections. Is it possible to take the motor off the autopilot pump and give it to a motor specialist. I'm not blown away by raymarine stuff either. I wouldn't choose it again. Its not at all intuative so have to keep looking stuff up - especially if I haven't used it for a few months.

Ok i am a raymarine fan and like their kit. They take the p on some prices. But generally speaking they are good at support and backward compatability.

I do find their stuff intuitive, but that is due to familiarity. I struggle with garmin.

My new C120 is a good bit of kit. The wifi / iPad compatibility is first class. And it works perfectly with a 22 year old course computer. If they fixed the annoying software oversights for me it would be spot on.

We have exactly that. Had software update and all checked. Only thing we have found is that it does settle down eventually, several hours after start up, so until I can afford the £6k for an upgrade (including digital radar) when we can we switch on the E120 the night before departure and make sure we have the iphone and the ipad fully charged as back-up. Frustrating.

I too am a Raymarine fan, about 3 years ago I started to get boats to trial/deliver that had Garmin kit fitted and I can't see how people can say its easier to use, I know its down to personal choice but with a lot of experience with both brands I would not have Garmin on my boat, their back up is great and its reliable but so is Raymarine.

Thanks Elessar for definitive reply and for all other replies. I must say that I'm rather shocked that an established company like Raymarine could sell a piece of kit lacking such a basic capability. On the other hand, I'm pleased that its not just me being a klutz. Never had a Garmin plotter but FWIW and IMHO, the Geonav plotter on my previous boat was a better and more intuitive piece of kit and not just because it gave ETA and distance to destination

I guess one might question how meaningful any such figure is likely to be. There are many variables that influence the speed of a boat over a long passage - in the absence of up-to-date weather forecasts covering the entire passage, I would think that any ETA has to be treated with a large degree of scepticism.

Deleted User, have I missed a key update here - does all this imply that you've got the new boat?

Of course. One takes that into account. It cant display distance to destination either. On the pop up you can dial in predicted speeds to do "what if" planning. And anyway I dont much care if you dont find it useful, I do. The data exists and I want to display it. Its annoying that i cant.

Sitting at home reading through the manual for Lighthouse 2, which I have just installed, the manual shows that the chart application data boxes can display "Route ETA" and "Route TTG", not sure if this is part of what you are looking for because I'm still getting used to the system.
