Ramsgate

Weather looking a bit grim for bank holiday :-(

End of 2019 I had a couple of decent meals at the Harbour Lights, surprised negative by comments.

Ramsgate is certainly a place of extremes. Never had problems getting a berth, but always avoided Ramsgate Week. The town is strange; lots of Eastern European men in ill-fitting leather jackets, many drugs, some decent places to eat, many dreadful places to eat. But they do have a Waitrose!

Full of EU boats when we were there.
Avoid awful restaurant on East Harbour arm.
Was that the Brassiere - we visited Ramsgate last week and had a wander about to find the homeless bedding down at the exit doors and it stank of urine and other bodily fluids.
I think If I visit by boat it will be to only overnight fuel up and go either to France or upon my return.
Ramsgate front doesnt look appealing at all in my opinion

It is in the nature of ports to be seedy and centres of potential revolt. Marseilles has always had a reputation for this, and it is no coincidence that the Polish resurgence began in Gdansk. Ramsgate is just a minor version, though I don't know what the town's opinion on Brexit is. Sometimes you just have to take the rough with the smooth.

I agree that, at first glance, Ramsgate is not terrifically appealing, but like all ports, try digging a little deeper. There are several interesting spots, the museum is one, walk to Broadstairs and swim, hire bikes and go to Margate, the Ship Shape In the arches is fun for a greasy spoon breakfast, Weatherspoons (spit) is an architectural ummmm, sticky carpet thing albeit with great balcony views on a sunny day., La Magnolia has always been good to us, Flavours by Kumar, Fish and chips, Pelosi’s ices (called something else now), Waitrose etc. etc. Even the Catholic Church is very interesting.
Like all places and especially ports, I’m sure that a sunny day improves it’s aspect enormously

They will need to get that dredger back before the battleship Potemkin can get in and start the revolution.
