Premier marinas (Eastbourne, Brighton, Chichester, etc) opened to visitors outside of thier group on Monday.

Assuming the OP is heading further West then most of Lake Solent opened up in mid April

Landing on the guano covered waiting pontoon is never a great start. However in our case we had just done a 25 hour trip, so a rusty iron bar to tie onto would have been welcome. The West marina is very empty but the person that checked me in was friendly and helpful.

I quite lik some aspects of Ramsgate shoreside. But I don't enjoy the swell that comes in and hits you when you are on the visitors pontoon or the wash from commercial craft that don't slow down until well inside the harbour.

Urgently need to pop in there a week or two ago, no problem, just moor up in empty spot.
Prices are definately on the up according to chap to who paid the bill when we collected to boat a week later.
There was a very keen helpful well spoken young man in the office during our sojurn. :)
Most eating/drinking places appeared to be open as was the chandlery.
The weather was of course NE and the North Foreland was reliably rolly ,took the inshore route, watching the surf on the Margate sands as we went past.

We have several motorboats from our moorings heading that way over the bank holiday weekend.
We are going in the opposite direction to St Kats Dock on Thursday.
Depending on the speed of you boat need to plan to take advantage of any helpful tides.
Even though we can go fairly quickly, we hope be off Southend at LW to use the flood tide up to Tower Bridge.

thanks for the link ? we were planning on heading round on Sunday and back on Wednesday. any other tips on sea state and conditions for a smooth trip round?

Not really, just the old suggestion that you avoid if possible strong NE against big springs.
Might have been in ECP , the suggestion that if anything more than an F5 in the offing better to be inside the marina looking out.
This definately applies to the more timid of us with motorboats. Hardy manly types with Yachts may think differently ?
Planning .
Choice of routes, inshore for something to look at and pass the time , offshore for less need to worry about accurate navigation or depth of water.
Any white tops ? its offshore route , nice and calm its inshore everytime.

Loads of independent eateries on dockside. For the budget conscious the nearbye W******spoons allows you to wine and dine in the splendor of the old casino. There is a decent chippy opposite and usually ques.
There are more resturants on the little terrace over looking the marina, these are very popular, you will almost certainly need to book , bit of climb, also the odd half decent restuarant further back into town.
Supermarkets in the High Street proper.
Station is fair old hike, use a cab.
One further comment. there is a resturant out on the Eastern Arm Royal Harbour Brasserie .
On our last visit to Ramsgate, several skippers, including us, decided that perhaps a visit to better class of eatery was in order.
The overall impression was not good. Perhaps just the uninspiring result of long busy day for them. and us .:(
