Bit of a far fetched scenario when it would just be easier to watch a house and see what time they go to work at, saves a train fare for the burgler too.

Besides, in my marina if somebody asks for my mobile the marina will ring me and give me their mobile number instead.

There are easier ways of making an living as a petty crook than stalking some random boat owner.

The petty burglars don't even watch houses in my experience. They just knock on each door on a street in turn, middle of the day, broad daylight. If it's answered, they come out with some daft story ("I want to buy that old car on the corner, is it yours?", "Can I speak to Dave?", "I'm doing free double glazing surveys", "I've lost my wallet. Could you lend me train fare home?") while having a peek round through the windows and door. If it's not answered and looks easy enough, they break in, grab what they can and scarper quick. They have to come by car round here because if they were local someone on the street would know them; it's usually parked round the corner with a mate in it if you want to go and check before calling the police.

Cliff's scenario seems more about a master criminal gang clearing a whole house though rather than some git taking your DVD player to fund his drugs so I suppose there's something in it if you've enough money to have a nice house full of expensive stuff at the same time as a working boat with a marina mooring /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

But on the whole I don't think there's anything wrong with Cliff's approach; a bit of paranoia is good for you and there's nothing wrong with being hard to find.

Why bother with the house... if they ring and you are at home, you know they won't be at the marina... and theres a nice boat there completely unattended. Whats easiest to take??

Whatever we do, we'll never be free of crime... just part of life.

I think the paranoia can be taken too far though... take a risk. If you didn't take risks, you couldn't even leave your front door each day!!

BTW, not aimed at you ggt, just your post is at the bottom /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I've got to agree with you.

In my experience, at the average south coast marina most people have travelled over a hour to get there from all over the place. The potential burbler has to ascertain 1. where they live. 2. Is the house going to be unoccupied when they get ther 3. Is there going to be anything worth nicking.

Nah, as others have said burblers tend not to be so sophisticated, I'd worry more about leaving my car keys in the bog.

And I'm not going to get paranoid about low risk occurances, there plenty of real high risk things to worry about, such as will I miss opening time if I continue to scribble?
