I bought a second hand radar this year for £350ish, including cable, scanner and LCD display, I could have had a pole for the same price also, but I declined. Last year I bought and sold a system for €250... but I had my own repaired instead of swapping it over, (that was a mistake)
An AIS transceiver can be had for €500 including a chart plotter from Aves marine... so he could do the same for less than £1000.
Nothing wrong with secondhand parts on a SH boat... ( if he wanted networked bells and whistles on state of the art equipment etc then maybe Paul Rainbows figures are more realistic)
