Have a look at the UK Sails website via google. You need to register (not a prob) but they have an excellent series of 'live & animated' situations most commonly found in racing. These are updated on a regular basis, there are sixteen now, and have to be one of the easier ways of understanding and interpreting the rules.

There is also a wealth of information about sails which can help you tweak her up a bit:)

Have fun.
