An anither

As A cam in by Auchendoun
A little wee bit frae the toun
Whan tae the Hielans A was bound
Tae view the haughs o Cromdale
A met a man in tartan trews
An speired at him whit was the news
Quo he, "the Hielan army rues
That ere we cam tae Cromdale"

"We were in bed sir, every man
Whan the English host upon us cam
A bluidy battle then began
Upon the haughs o Cromdale
The English horse, thae were sae rude
Thae bathed their hooves in Hielan bluid
But our brave clans thae bauldly stood
Upon the haughs of Cromdale"

"But alas we could nae langer stay
Out ower the hills we cam away
An sair we did lament the day
That ere we cam tae Cromdale"
Thus the great Montrose did say
"John Hielanman show me the way
An A will ower the hills this day
Tae view the haughs o Cromdale"

Thae were at dinner every man
Whan the great Montrose upon thaim cam
Anither battle then began
Upon the haughs o Cromdale
The Grant, Mackenzie an Mackay
As sune as great Montrose thae spied
It's then thae focht richt manfully
Upon the haughs o Cromdale

Macdonalds thae returned again
The Camerons did thair standard jine
Mackintosh played a bluidy game
Upon the haughs o Cromdale
O fifty thousan Cromwell's men
Five hundert fled tae Aberdeen
The rest o thaim lie on the plain
Upon the haughs o Cromdale

Tae a twister..

Ha! whare ye gaun, ye crowlan ferlie!
Your impudence protects you sairly;
I canna say but ye strunt rarely,
Owre gauze and lace;
Tho', faith! I fear ye dine but sparely
On sic a place.

Ye ugly, creepan, blastit wonner,
Detested, shunn'd by saunt an' sinner,
How daur ye set your fit upon her,
Sae fine a Lady!
Gae somewhere else and seek your dinner
On some poor body.

Swith! in some beggar's haffet squattle;
There ye may creep, and sprawl, and sprattle,
Wi' ither kindred, jumping cattle,
In shoals and nations;
Whare horn nor bane ne'er daur unsettle
Your thick plantations.

Now haud you there, ye're out o' sight,
Below the fatt'rels, snug and tight,
Na, faith ye yet! ye'll no be right,
Till ye've got on it,
The verra tapmost, towrin height
O' Miss's bonnet.

My sooth! right bauld ye set your nose out,
As plump an' grey as onie grozet:
O for some rank, mercurial rozet,
Or fell, red smeddum,
I'd gie you sic a hearty dose o't,
Wad dress your droddum!

I wad na been surpriz'd to spy
You on an auld wife's flainen toy;
Or aiblins some bit duddie boy,
On's wylecoat;
But Miss's fine Lunardi, fye!
How daur ye do't?

O Jenny, dinna toss your head,
An' set your beauties a' abread!
Ye little ken what cursed speed
The blastie's makin!
Thae winks and finger-ends, I dread,
Are notice takin!

O wad some Pow'r the giftie gie us
To see oursels as others see us!
It wad frae monie a blunder free us,
An' foolish notion:
What airs in dress an' gait wad lea'e us,
And ev'n Devotion!

Re: 28th June

Jamesie
Today hes no' bin wi'oot its prablems.
Ra dochter is wantin tae throw a pairty when we're awa tae ra boat. I jes cannae unnerston why she didnae unnerston when a telt her nae chance.
Then ah wiz a cenchury oot wi ma recknin oan this very post.
Ma boss hez stairted talkin in serbo- croat and finally ma mairbles appear tae hef depairted.
28th June is a big day fer me as am a year older. Hoothefeck dye become a year older owernicht? Ah wiz half remembrin a thread frae a while back when the CC49 Oil Baron said that 49 wiz his year of entry tae ra planet. A' jes got masel a wee bit confused. Think its ma'impendin age. So ra Baron is ra same age as ma wee sel - but then again, he cuid be older - onth'ither hon - he might not be. Very difficult a' this.

Let me explain

there just needs a wee bit translation here Kenny ma wee singlet.
Lets look tae Wordsworth as being a man who has trodden the lofty High Hills of Cumberland yourself, you should be ok with this.

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That flits on high - o'er mossy fields and banks
I put my foot on a man's bare arse
And a womans voice said thanks.

Hope that helps

If it's 28/6/49, then I am indeed older than you! But I don't look it, you must have had a longer paper round than me.

The greatest song of all

Hamish Henderson's 'Freedom Come-all-ye'

Roch the win i the clear day's dawin
Blaws the clouds heilster-gowdie owre the bay
But there's mair nor a roch win blawin
Thro the Great Glen o the warl the day
It's a thocht that wad gar our rottans
Aa thae rogues that gang gallus fresh an gay
Tak the road an seek ither loanins
Wi thair ill-ploys tae sport an play

Nae mair will our bonnie callants
Merch tae war whan our braggarts crousely craw
Nor wee weans frae pitheid an clachan
Murn the ships sailin doun the Broomielaw
Broken faimilies in launs we've hairriet
Will curse 'Scotlan the Brave' nae mair, nae mair
Black an white ane-til-ither mairriet
Mak the vile barracks o thair maisters bare

Sae come aa ye at hame wi freedom
Never heed whit the houdies croak for Doom
In yer hous aa the bairns o Aidam
Will fin breid, barley-bree an paintit room
Whan MacLean meets wi's friens in Springburn
Aa thae roses an geeans will turn tae blume
An a black laud frae yont Nyanga
Dings the fell gallows o the burghers doun.

The 'win' in the first line refers to Harold McMillans' winds of change speech - South Africa 1963
MacLean is of course John MacLean.

Aye

Nice one!

As the name attached to my profile will reveal, I'm in no position to be hard on the Scots, being, in fact, descended from such!

Thats her, theres only one Swn-y-mor, part one registered anyway! Warren is slightly older than me. We are both devestatingly handsome chaps! He is more intelligent though, that I admit. Nice boat isn't she.
