Quick chain counter problem

I have a Quick CHC 1202M chain counter fitted to my vessel, and love using the up/down keys at the helm, when anchoring single handed. It now tells me the "clock battery is low" and needs replacing. Looking through the manual it turns out to have a CR 2032 battery inside it, which allows the unit to remember calibrations etc... The manual also says the unit has to be returned to a recognised service agent for this battery to be replaced. As these batteries are readily available, has anyone successfully changed the battery themselves? It is complicated? Any information gratefully received.

Very interested in any replies to this as we are in the same situation.
Ours said low last season and was still working till we had a 'no sensor 'problem which turned out to need the mini magnet replacing which Quick sent to us free of charge. About to fit this next week and will then see if it still works with the low battery message.

The CR2032 is a VERY common battery. You should have NO problems sourcing one.

To actually replace the battery you’ll need to remove the unit (which depends on how it was installed, e.g. surface or flush).

Once you have access to the rear of the unit remove the 8 screws and use a small flat screwdriver to snap open the cover.

The battery will become accessible and replacing it is a piece of cake.

Reassembly and reinstallation is a straight forward reverse of the process.

I suspect that several CR2032s will have been exhausted in the last 7 years.

My boat is just over 5 years old and I now have the "clock battery low" message. I searched the forum and also found the above, 7 year old OP. Further searching via Google found a copy email from a Quick, Italy technician giving instructions how to change the battery. This is the text:-

"the replacement of the battery on our CHC 1202 is quite easy, hence I’m sure you’ll be able to make it on your own. However, here below I’ll try to make a step by step description of the whole operation. Kindly detach the two pieces of the case of the instrument by applying a pressure on the transparent display of the device. This operation might be facilitated by applying a slight pressure on the notches on the back of the unit. Now unscrew the 8 little screws on the back of the instrument. Once this is done, detach the back of the device from the transparent plastic case, reaching in this way the printed circuit board, on which I kindly ask you to unscrew the two little screws. Once this is done, kindly apply a little pressure on the buttons on the front of the device, detaching in this way the printed circuit board from the transparent plastic case. Following to this, kindly remove the 2032 battery from its older and replace it. Please, pay attention during the reassembling, that the screws on the back of the device aren’t too tightened nor too loosen, as the former case might damage the plastics whilst the latter might allow water to enter the device"

I'm planning to change my battery shortly.
