Queens Jubilee

...To respond to Reverend Ludd, surely the intention was to make the flotilla as inclusive as possible and NOT pack it out with SW1 cronies.

You can't say that Our Dear Queen distances herself and her Family from the greater and lesser unwashed.

Pah!

I'm really not sure what the intention was or wasn't to be honest, I was just responding to the level playing field comment.
I can indeed say that your dear queen is distant from us proles, I think it goes with the job

I have watched with interest the comments on the motor boat cruiser selection. Acknowledging that this is an extremely prestigious event, surely we want the best looking boats to participate with as wide a selection of models as possible ? Applicants who have had rejections might ask themselves whether their particular boat was likely to have been the only one of its type or whether it really was the best of its type to have been applied for consideration. I sympathise with those who participated in the rehearsals especially when they travelled considerable distances but believe the selection should be that to give the best pageant display.

I can confidently say mine is the best example of a classic Broom I have seen during the last five years either on the Thames, or in adverts, articles or whatever.

Aren't you ATYC staff though? :D

Conspiracy theories always abound in issues like this, particularly when people feel aggrieved that a level playing field has not been in evidence.
I have no axe to grind as I did not express any interest in participating. However, I did try and assist the ATYC by publicising the rehearsal on this forum when it was clear they were struggling to get the numbers they would have liked. I think at least one or two forumites did respond to that appeal and took part as a result.
Is there any published procedure that defines the selection process and who are the 'sub committee members' that you refer to?

Yes there was a procedure that was set up by the PLA but I don't think its my place to share here I'm afraid.

Your squadron organiser should have it.

Chris

I thourght that the idea was to have a cross section of boats.

Now there is a section of cross boaters!

Must admit that I was very disappointed but hey, that's life, do let's try to keep it in perspective. No point getting upset, it won't change anything.

I'm starting to get a feeling that MANY St Kats moorings have already been booked by non-participants.

That could make for a great party! :D

Where are the participants going to go?

Why not organise a rival event, have a cruise of all the "rejects" through London.

:D:D:D

It was made quite clear to me when they all thought they where getting in that there is no chance of getting a reject boat near the place .
There was talk of doing something around Windsor way on the same day but i doubt the rejects would be welcome after all the showing off they did about going to the real thing :D

On a serious note i am sorry you didnt get in chaps . I know you where really looking forward to it :(
