Hi All new to this but thought I would have a look n e way.
I am also One of the Clowns!! and would just like to say, I feel very sorry if n e of you boat users has had a poor meeting with the VHP team. I really do understand MOST of your points of view and see your views about tighter working space when no ferry traffic is around. However in our defence we have found on so many times that allowing A LITTLE more room tends to come back and bite us as water users are to slow to repond when we need to close the gap down. Whilst you guys seem to have had a poor experience, we do have a huge amount of happy water users out there and please remember if any one has a problem ie engine down or mast as we had recently, we will be there to aid and help you asap. Once again I appologise if it wasn't your day and please guys give the team a chance. We are doing the right thing, remeber there are idiots out there look at the news this week ie the drunk kids now in hospitol cause they didn't think they needed to listen.
Cheers All

I agree guys we don't get to all the boats all the time. There is only 2 of us on a good day! Can't be every where at once. Feel free to point the vessels out to us and we may be able to educate them for you. I would love to have a chat with someone tilling you were to go, just because you were trying to help. Remeber those with little faith in us, we are not the bad guys but instead would relly like to help you the decent boat users to a better day on the water.

Not kids - 35 to 55 - old enough to think they knew better.

i don't have a problem with either the patrol nor the SSC. What we do have trouble with is being pushed into oncomming traffic which is three abrest and clearly not sticking to starbord in a narrow channel. The patrols should in my opinion pay more attenton to outgoing traffic inorder to provide sea room to those inbound. I felt quite agreaved at the time, and did not have the confidence to argue back, we have all seen the fines imposed on skippers which have been out of all proportion to the offence, and I have no idea what powers the QHM patrols have.

I've been going in and out of Portsmouth since 1985, and to be honest with you, I now try and keep the hell away from the entrance during the 'rush hours'.

I am happy with where I should be, and how far from the west wall I should be, and the 'red-to-red safe to go ahead', 'green-to-green should never be seen', thing, as are most of my fellow Pompey boating community, ...................

but........ there are this bunch of idiots that cause mayhem by 'thinking' that these rules do not mean to include them.

20% knowledge and 80% common sense, enjoy your boating, most of us have had to endure a journey by road with idiots behind the wheels of potentially dangerous metal boxes to get to our boats, do we really need to suffer the same Pratt's on the water?

We are taking part in a leisure activity that we are meant to enjoy, why make it a stressful time, slow down, the water will still be there when you get out/in.

VHP have a tough job. They are there for our safety, I have never had a problem with them, even when I used to take type 42's and stretch 42's in and out!!!!

I would like to request though that the outward bound vessels be 'Policed' in their 'rush' to get out, and their overtaking procedures be looked at more diligently

I bet we have all heard five blasts around No4 Buoy?

That can be a fun place to be at low water with Saint Claire or her sisters in the vicinity, tell you what lets put a Fast-Cat there aswell!

You've completely missed the point:

if you've been forced to go on the wrong side maybe you should have hung back until the entrance wasn't as busy before squeezing through!

If coming in, it's impossible to judge how many people will be overtaking at the narrowest point by the time you get there. "Hanging back" ?? How on earth do you do this in a mobo? Drop into neutral and get rammed by the yacht behind or drift into the main channel? I don't think so.

When I'm talking about being forced into the main channel, it's by the overtaking yachts coming the OTHER way.

Remember, it's a sunny weekend, relax, take your time - if you want to go fast you've got the whole of the Solent to go fast in, but when going through the narrow entrance just hang back and follow the boat in front

Yes! so why don't you actually enforce this, rather than trying to gather up the mess caused by those that don't? You've also implied that it's the mobos that can't wait to throttle up that are causing this problem, whereas the recent chaos that I have seen is at least equally caused by sailing yachts and mobos.

Tosca and dvinell you both have valid points and when on patrol at the entrance I can tell you I have a hugh problem chosing which end to work at if on my own. If I hang back between Ballast and the wall to keep out going over, the muppets (sorry water users) who don't know how to read tides end up right out in the channel anyway even if we explain close in is quicker if against the tide. If I pick the entrance to sit they come out at you in one great race forcing the incoming to go wide. Now I can't talk for all VHP but I always give a little if this is happening and normally shack my head and laugh with the on coming skippers hopeing they understand I am aware of the problems these outgoing boats are causing them. As you can guess its hell but unless there is two boats out we have a problem what ever we do.

This is also due to a shortage of man power we are a charty and all our volunteers so I appreaciate you ideas but would be even more pleased if you would offer to help!!!! Why don't you guys contact QHM and see if you could help improve our team. But in the very least don't moan at us just give us the ideas you have and contact us with them.

Cheers All
