Sorry to drag the forum back to boats but I just received this from QHM. What do you think are the chances of seeing flags and radar reflectors on all pot markers in the Eastern Solent next Season. Anyone know if Southampton are doing the same at their end?

Approximately nil.

Unless a serious effort is made to prosecute/confiscate gear, etc, it'll be ignored by the vast majority.

Should we pull up any gear that doesn't conform and hand it in to QHM? (After eating any catch, of course /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif)

He would be better to get tough on the Pilot boats that zoom in and out of Haslar Creek at high speed, as they turn to berth they set up a huge wash that often rolls through Haslar marina

Bet the harbour patrol quickly get this under control. Dont forget QHM has access to a high definition radar covering the solent. Personally I intend to report any unmarked pot buoys to QHM and if everyone does that ,the unmarked ones will quickly disappear.

Of course this could be a 'security' issue and therefore only likely to be introduced in this vicinity. Don't hold your breath unless you have a warship tied up alongside.

Mind you they have been doing that for years long before the marina was even thought of!

Southampton HM responded in PBO, to a request for enforcement in the Port of Southampton. I cannot find the letter, but the gist was that because yachts do not pay harbour dues, the HM is not resourced to enforce the fishermen.

This argument is plainly flawed.

One could hope for consistency in fishing regilations and speed limits within both Solent ports.
