Both my crew and I agreed that the one thing that we missed and couldn’t seem to make on board was Toast.
Those on large yachts no doubt have a good working grill and can get this lixury, but on a small boat with limited cooking facilities, it’s amazing how a simple thing as toast can become a dream.
Always have on board tins of Custard and Creamed Rice, both are great pick me ups.
 
My word, that is a generous scale. My crew live on fried fillets of fresh air, if they are lucky.

Google "stove top toaster". There's also plenty of youtube videos and how-tos on making bread in heavy-based pan on top of a hob.
 
We’ve tried most solutions, they just don’t seem to work all that well. But I’m sure someone will solve it one day.
We’ve got a square “boaty” frying pan, put it on ring, heat it up so it quite hot, then put slices of yesterday’s bread in. If your slices are nice and even, a short time each side will produce toast acceptable to the a Admiral. Be careful of the pan when you turn the gas off, it stays hot for a lot longer than you’d think....
 
And don't forget the daily allowance of duty free stores for each crew member.

I can remember smoking forty Senior Service a day just because the Old Man wanted rid of them... I’m surprised I’m still here!

French ships had wine tanks and if you were lucky they were still full when the ship was sold.

We bought one of those cooker top toasters and it worked quite well as we had no grill either.

'Toasted cheese & pickle' sandwiches, done in a frying pan, work wonders.
Even do this at home.
