Re: More info

Sorry if you have had to repeat your transmission. I cannot have been keeping a headphone watch at the time owing to having to handle a distress call to the bathroom.

Re: More info

book tokens are high priority for me. Instead of buying an amusing card costing towards two blimin quid, you can buy a £1 smiths token which includes a free card. I had hoped to be able to float off the £1 token and then approach the cashier a second time to buy another £1 token, and so on, thereby winning free christmas cards. But they tear off part of the card, which doesn't look very good. This explains why i have sent no christmas cards to anyone since 1978. Well, alright, 1967 really, when the free classroom postbox was terminated. Labour government, I'm afraid.

Ok, Ok...

If there is a nice window in the weather, and our SSR is through in time too, we would like to do our first channel crossing in "Neraida". Now, bearing in mind what kind of boat we are, we dont have any overnight accomodation to offer, but if anybody would like to have a (hopefully) whizzy racey type channel experience with us, a couple of willing crew would be fab.

Otherwise, we'd love to blag a lift on a bigger boat!! (just 2 of us, and we are a couple)

Before we get any "the weather can change in October you know" type replies from no doubt rightly concerned peeps, We do have well over 15k cruising miles under our combined belts and J has about 350k professional miles, and if weather goes orrible we could leave her in 'bourg.

Its just a thought, we would deffo be like to be on the crew list unless we get a fab indian summer with Easterly 3-4's in which case, 2 x agile lunatics prefered with bunks on another boat :-D

I'm with Arcturus so it's the 11/12th for us BUT why not go both weekends. Surely someone who is available only on the 4/5th can pick up the baton from you Ken and organise it.
If you were planning a race, each weekend could be a semi final with the final at another time. Could almost become annual and an RORC qualifier!!!
Great idea well done!!

Well, don't tell em over in Stinkies, but I was thinking more along the lines of a weekend crossing over to the dark and windy side.

Wow. We're up to 33 potential participants now and plenty of berths to go round (at least 10 boats on offer). Majority seems to be favouring the second weekend, i.e 11/12th. With the inevitable no-shows we might get 20 plus people together. I'd suggest we keep this thread live until after the weekend, and then try to start matching boats and bods. Maybe ask Mr Kim to give us a closed group at that point.

Relaxed! everytime I've been on a raggie it's been skipper hollering at me to pull the string thing harder, or wind the winch quicker, or pull up the wet, seaweedy and muddy anchor chain. Never been on one cross channel though

Looks like I might not make this one as per pm to TK, I can do 4/5 but not 11/12, and it seems to be going the 11/12 way.

Yep! I'd be up for first weekend. Can't get away early Friday, so ferry option might be good if others setting off early...... as long as I can get back to car at end of trip.

i can somehow car you one way or another, perhaps. Cept i too need to go 4th/5th and can't entertain the slovenly tardy layabout 11th gang. Perhaps we should indeed go over the first weekend to check everything all ok. Then drink everything in the caff/restaurant and advise that we are doing a reconnaisance trip, and our mates will settle up he following weekend.

So! Pathfinder trip on 4/5, sort out waypoints, where to drink, and leave massively expensive bar tabs for followers on? Scare raggie skippers senseless by hoisting massive amounts of sail unsuitable for conditions in attempt to make boat go at decent speed?

Sounds good to me.

Re: Proposed Chbg trip, earlybird disc

'fraid I now definitely can't make the second weekend only the 4/5. On 10th, our company is moving. This might be a very good reason to have 'an important conference' away but I s'pose I'd better be around to sign expenses claims for late night pizzas etc etc.

So, I'll be leaving Friday probably. Who else will be in the flotilla? Shall we arrange mayoral ceremony, with cheap wine and canapes? Should Teacher Ken be our VC - Virtual Commodore? What weekend is he going anyway? What about restaurant recommendations? Why don't we get some stinkie boats to go so they can take our lines for us when we arrive and provide nice comfy white seats for us in our oily oilies? Didn't YM do a feature on Cherburg recently? If Pathfinder group misbehaves terribly will town impose ban on brass monkey cruise coming following week? Is Bill Giles' long range forecast going to be accurate? Is it true Ken's worried about seaworthiness of Twisters to make the ardous journey?

So many questions

Re: Restaurant Inquiry

I am honoured to have already been appointed North Hemisphere Restaurant Commitee Chairman. Having elsewhere explained that anyone staggering to the right and falling over on the way out of a restaurant/pub is entirely due to the Coriolis effect, i will now turn my attention to the important matter of selecting a restaurant. I suggest that the Cafe de Paris is thoroughly investigated, quite acceptable on a previous visit, and altho one or two were a bit ill on the way back last time, it was probly nothing to do with the oysters. Probaly erm the equal and opposite force against gravity.

Re: jobsworth/committee structure

As owner of a Bavaria, I feel I should be appointed Ocean Safety Officer. If this position is not vacant, I'd gladly put myself forward as Cultural Attache, in a Sir Les Patterson some of way. I accept that such honours should be bestowed upon one and requesting same may be entirely unseemly. If I have offended anyone's sensibilities or been guilty of bad form, I humbly, and most profusely apologise.Ish

Re: Restaurant Inquiry

Has to be a take over of the upper floor of Cafe de Paris - worth letting them know of the invasion as would be a disaster if they ran out of otsters. They get them from St Vaast so we wont need to detour there!
