Re: Wealth/Sense Quotient

I used to have more money than sense, then I bought a boat to go sailing and now I have far less money and therefore the sense/wealth quotient has improved.

I defy anyone on this site to argue with the logic that going sailing make sense!

However, for those who want PhDs, how about the variation through the year of the money/sense quotient as the bills (esp marina) come in?

It\'s not just the stinkpots

I think that you are being a bit hard on the motorboaters.

My observations are that whilst yotties aren't bad when away from the edge they aren't any better or worse when coming alongside as the gouges down the side of Rival Spirit caused by gaffers and their out-of-control bowsprits and dingies and their out-of-control booms will testify.

Re: Debt vs Sh!t for Brains brigade.?

Oh, you are fine!

Note that you add up your sense, and that might come to 320,000 thingys (not sure of the SI units of sense) and then you add up all your money. Your need the money to be LESS than the sense figure. The wealth/sense quotient is the money divided by sense. You need this number to be less the 1.0 otherwsie you obviously have more money than sense.

Deeply in debt means that you have actually have negative index! Hurrah!

Note that it is impossible to have negative sense. You can have almost zero sense - ohdrat claimed utter lack of sense (0.0) which buggers up the numbers and sends w/s quotient to infinity. But under normal circumstances of even being almost completley daft (wasting money on boats for example, not really having a proper job, buying broken houses, pratting about on the internet and so forth) and yet whilst you have negative net worth you will ALWAYS have more money than sense provide your sense stays non-zero. Well Done!

Isn't imcopetence negative sense? therefore you could have negative sense = incompetence but that would really bugger the quotient up......

Re: No real change

I pretty much agree with this.

Note however that at the higher echelons of sail-powered boating as well as purely powered boating, the costs are so high that even the most academically- supercharged person would have trouble refuting the charge of having "more money than sense". Although, I suppose, having spent it they are at least addressing the problem. I would say that once one has equipped oneself with the basic essentials, spending more moeny doesn't allow more sense to be acquired - but it does reduce wealth, so it's gong in the right direction I supose...

Re: Debt vs Sh!t for Brains brigade.?

No no no. Sense is not a vector quantity. Money IS a vector quantity, so you can owe 10 grand but it is cancelled out if the creditor owes you the same amount. Sense doesn't follow this pattern; I mean, if you're really stupid and you meet someone else exactly the level of moronic dimness, neither you nor that other person would be less dim as a result of the combined intelligence. Of course, if a dim person has a discussion with a clever person, the dim person might feel clever and perhaps even the clever person might feel a bit less bright, but this is more like a warm and cold object being brought together.

Thus, like the measurement of temperature on the absolute scale (Kelvin) , or the measuremnt of mass, you simply can't have negative sense. I mean, regardless of how severe your slimming regime (?) you will never ever weigh "minus 20 kilos" will you? No. Likewise, you can't have negative sense, although I should thank you for severely testing this aspect of the discussion :)

Re: Socialist Silliness

ooh i object to this. It's only "going in the right direction" if one agrees with the sneeringly socialist premise that having more money than sense is a bad thing - and my sacracsm shows that I don't.

Daft socialists also worry about the "gap between rich and poor" - not realising that if someone earns £10 and another earns £20 , then if they both double their salary the gap will also double: Only by increasing tax to 100% will the socialist (government) claim victory in "eliminating the gap between rich and poor". Only those who are stupid AND poor will be duped into thinking that this is a good thing. I am hoping that the other people will (soon, please) wake up to the mendacious use of statistics.

Wealth/Sense Quotient: seasonal variations

I think that is easily explained: your sense and skill improves during the sailing/boating process, and (whilst no invoices) your wealth improves too. Then the bills come in. There's then a choice; you're stupid and pay rip-off prices, or clever and use more cost-effective equipment or negotiate a discount or perhaps demand a corrected bill - but note that either way the wealth/sense quotient REMAINS THE SAME.

There is a breed of character emerging of people who have been immensely successfull in their chosen field, they are natural leaders with the easy authority that only comes after many years in charge.

Then they decide to buy a boat..................

The sea(or even the marina fuelling pontoon on a breezy day)is a great leveller of men.

Not being an expert on Money to Sense ratios, what happens to the graph if you spend a lot of money on drinking yourself senseless.

And what does the area under the graph represent?

This could work very well, as extreme incompetence (negative sense) and a large debt (negative money) will give a large POSITIVE wealth to sense quotient!

That\'s easy

Calibration rules as follows:

Anyone who has more money than me must by definition have less sense.

Anyone who has less money than me must also have less sense but for reasons )possibly) other than sailing.

I have no doubt whatsoever that you would agree TC.

Unfortunately, I don't know of an emoticon (lovely word) that has an enormous tongue in it's cheek.

Magic

Only 2 out of 5 people will ever wake up to meaningless statistics, while 1 in 4 will ask them to, and 3 in 5 will just agree to get rid of the guy with the clip board so they can carry on shopping.
