Any one heard of a Spirit 28?

Boats & Outboards

As most will realise have 'almost' decided the DIY route won't work for me so Flipper will be sold for whatever I can get and SWMBO has opened the purse strings on the bottomless pit that is boat ownership! Call it a birthday present!

My plan is very much to do Azores in 2012 - well I have the vane gear so ought to use it but I want a cruising boat (short / singlehanded) that will last me a long time.

Looking for STRUCTURALLY SOUND NOT HOME BUILD, Fin or long keel (not too deep - used to 4' 6"), >25 foot, <30 foot, inboard diesel (in working order), absolutely MAX budget £10k (including doing up / extra gear etc). Shabby, needing TLC is fine so long as the basics (mast & hull) are good. Nice to have is a bit more headroom than Flipper as I do get a bad back from bending all the time. Cutter rig would be great but far from essential. Cabin with capability for good sea berths / passage making and a hads I can get into at sea would be nice too /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Will take what I can from Flipper in way of general equipment, vane gear, chart plotter, auto pilot charts etc. Could remove the 2 year old sailspar furling gear (still have old forestay) and I guess I could have the 2 year old dolphin sails recut for new boat. I know this will reduce the value of the remaining project.

So what is about locally?

Thanks for the help I keep getting /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That could be pushing it Paul /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

If she's opened the purse strings then I would start with Apollo Duck
No you can't cook it /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
Plenty there without trecking over to the West Country bad lands, but narrow the wish list down a bit if you want to make it easier. I happen to know of a very sturdy 21ft Debutante you might be ....
Nah, maybe not /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I don't know if it's the same but oldsaltoz was praising the virtues of Van der Stadts inc the Spirit 28. I realise the designer/builder's name is different but it might just be the same model.

Thread here.

So sorry to hear of your problems - a gut-wrencher.

Best decision to start afresh I think in the circumstances.

Good luck

Nigel

Have a look at the Carter & Clark site (interyacht) some possible candidates. How about something 70/80's and tough like a Javelin or a Hustler 30. There is a hustler on there £14k but its been on over a year. There is also a UFO 27 which might fit the bill.

Project PHOENIX

Is this where you cut a catamaran in half, move the mast to one hull and then sail it out of the desert, whilst bringing love and unity to all in the ECF?

Just looked on clarke and carter - don't know it.

I think Traigh of this parish has one.

Glayva (John) is the person to ask. He has one and it is the only boat to complete all of the modern jester challenges. So it is certainly seaworthy.

Traigh does Burnham Week and she looks to sail beautifully and was damn quick as well.

Some were sold as bare hulls by Colvic and were home finished though.

Thanks for the compliment, Traigh is of course sailed by an extremely talented bloke, [that's me, that is] /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif
But seriously Flipper, if you want to try a Ufo, we shall be in commission in a couple of weeks, come for a sail.
