Preveza as a base

I'm looking seriously at a cheap 30ish ft yacht in the Ionian and, having some affection for the area, keeping her at Preveza. But as overall costs are an issue would consider elsewhere. Google hasnt been my friend in trying to find costs though. I appreciate this isnt quite liveaboard (yet) but can anyone help with a rough guide to cheap pricing. If you wanted to keep a boat round that way and make 3-4 visits a year, how would you do it if financially constrained?

Well there the marinas but there not cheap then there the yards no pontoons but they will haul you out and back in twice if you have a yearly contract , or should I say they did ,
Marinas in Greece are no cheaper then any where else in the summer months , but by what you wrote you be looking for a yearly contact , there a few places where you could leave your boat on anchor and have someone check it for you but I doubt you be insured eve way not some thing I would recommend .
Only other thing you could as IBA at Nidri if they had room on their pontoon but I doubt that be much cheaper .

Probably the cheapest way is to launch from Preveza at the start of the season, then when going back home park the boat in the mud at Tranquil Bay and arrange gardiennage. There was a company who would check your boat out for you regularly, probably more than one today. Alternatively you could ask about haul out at one of the traditional yards, for example one further inland from Preveza or at Nidri.

You might also consider using the marina at Zakynthos Town. I don't have any more information other than meeting a satisfied client a couple of years ago. In all these options I think you will have to get on the phone to say Aktio Marina for your haul out and storage fees and to IBA (Jaki at Maintenance) for the gardiennage and pontoon fees. I use IBA and have been very happy with their service including occasional guardiennage in season when the boat is moved to their raft in Tranquil Bay.

When I was there 5 years ago there was a very basic boatyard down the Gulf of Amvrakikos - Google Earth show it at 38°55'21"N 20°59'36"E. It might be a cheap option.

We met someone last year who kept their boat on the hard in Cleopatra and launched for a month twice a year when they used her.

They had done the sums and said that this was cost effective and kept their boat safe.

With an annual contract at Cleopatra there is one launch and lift out included so they just paid the annual fee plus one extra launch and lift out.

I’m not sure how the costs would work if you wanted more launches etc.

We have kept our yacht in Aktio, at Preveza for a number of years. We usually visit twice a year and have found it very quick and easy to get the boat lifted out for anything over a couple of weeks. Plus you have the reassurance that if you can't get back the boat is safe on its metal cradle. The summer months are cheaper. You pay for the months you have, not a yearly contract and the crew at Aktio are quick and efficient at lifting boats out. There is no marina afloat, only two piers.
Preveza is a nice town and when you get to know it you can find almost anything. There is nearly always space on the town quay or the new marina. Plenty of cruising North or South or extend to Albania, Italy, Croatia, etc. or go further south to the Gulf of Corinth, Athens etc. also inland! depending on time.
Preveza's only problems are that the boat yards are across the estuary from the town (daily buses) and there is a long rolly-polly channel to navigate from the open sea.!
