Pressure cooker enquiry

Re: Alternatives...

Thanks kindly all. At least I now know that there is such a thing.

May I reccomend to the house the use of a pressure cooker on board?
They cook well, don't spill and use little water or cooking fuel. Ideal for rough weather stews. Can also double as a saucepan so hardly any extra stowage space needed.

Re: Alternatives...

Yeah, best thing since sliced bread for pasta, rice e.t.c.
We use it all the time just to save on gas.

These people make S/S ones. http://www.butterflyindia.com/precooker.html
We've had one for years, invaluable.
Bought it from Timothy Whites, but you will have to hunt around for stockists now.
Before we had a fridge and an oven, everthing went into the pressure cooker and we kept going. Now we have to stop and cook "properly".
That's progress.

The big spanish Carrfour supermarkets sell small cookers which is ideal for food for two we bought ours 5 year ago and they still stock them. Ideal for the boat

Re: Alternatives...

Hey! That's interesting. I make my own bread by hand at home with very acceptable results. Does anybody know the correct steaming time for a loaf on a pressure cooker? I assume it must be longer than the half hour I give my two pound loaves as the temperature in the pressure cooker is lower than an oven.

Incidentally, I do have a half sized pressure cooker of many years old but it is probably out of production now.

Regards.

The Healthy Living Direct catalogue which came bundled with todays paper has a 1.5 litr mini pressure cooker at £19.99. No web site but the phone number is 08701 21 14 00.

Vic,
you might want to read these reports:-

http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/consumer/asa_retinol.shtml -admittedly, not about a pressure cooker, but adjudication against them no less.

and more!

I would be very dubious about ordering from them. I saw the pressue cooker in the flyer that came with our newspaper. Looked OK, but......HLD???

p.s. sorry about the long url's but I did not want to shorten them.
