I recently read an article of the benefits of canning using a pressure cooker. Are there some models that work better or are more appropriate for a boat?

I am also looking into the silcon bakeware as it is very maliable for easy storage, easy cleaning and heat proof. Has anyone tried these products? Are there any downsides to them?

Try Lakeland they sell some silicone bakeware and also have 2 sizes of pressure cooker, a tiny one for Billy no mates and a bigger version that is designed more like a casserole than a traditional pressure cooker.

From past experience of Lakeland most of the stuff they sell is excellent quallity and they don't usually sell a product if it doesn't do what it's supposed to! Also a very good supplier of cooler bags and freezer packs.

Stainless steel is more resiliant than aluminium in the marine environment. For a good selection (albeit at a price) try the Swiss made Kuhn Rikon cookers. They're available mail order from www.cookmate.co.uk.

I have used glass Kilner jars with success.Bottling fish, chicken and Beef. The products were used within a couple of months without refrigeration. I used a Stainless Steel pressure cooker. One as tall as you can buy as the jars need to be upright when you pressurise them. Also, the jars should not be overly tall or you wont be able to get the pressure cooker lid on.
