Preparing for an Atlantic Adventure and Beyond......

Nice day for it.....if 25 knots of wind and overcast is yer bag! Thats not going to change anytime soon so its getawayday.

It's often 30+ kts between São Vincente and São Antão, but it spits you out at the bottom pretty quick!

Is the fishing dog still there outside the marina gate? (That was 4 years ago so maybe he's no more) He was a stray but dived into the sea to catch fish and made, as far as we could tell, a healthy living.

Good passage anyway.

Capsensible, your recent entry suggests that there is little to do in Mindelo than get "pissed"
I have followed your entries on the forum, you are normally positive.
I hope I have miss understood

Mindelo has lots of fun.
If you cannot find it in Mindelo you will be more upset in Rodney Bay and the Caribbean.
And as you sail the Pacific you will be more and more frustrated.

Your messages on the forum are normally positive and good, I hope I have miss understood you,

Mornin. No fishing dog sighted!

Dont really want to be sad about Mindelo but its the third time ive been here and just dodnt budget for an extended stay...

At least the repair will be good.

I know Rodney Bay well too, the great attraction will be that its warmer!

But i am looking forward to getting gone as are the crew. But at least sailing teaches patience.....

Perhaps you'll be able to rendezvous with yon Uku character and slip him a few tins of sardines....

We be ere. Yay. Tad under sixteen quite nice days.

Not warm this time of year, yeah it's relative but first eight or nine days needed good lagging especially at night.

Two sail broad reach first week with north east winds. Dry but chilly. With these trips it's a chance to play around with the sail plan to do things a bit not normal. So full Genoa and two thirds main was a good balance.

Second week, downhill. Polled Genoa out with block on end of boom, got us quite deep downwind. Last six hundred miles though, gen halyard broke. Wire on rope, swage on wire pulled apart. Still, with lots of reefing in and out, Selden, roller, still able to make good six to seven knots.

Last few days, lots of squalls, shiny clean yacht!

Got in last night, throttle cable snapped......several hours before arrival. Anchored last night, interesting going into Marina today..... but fixed now. Oh, halyard repaired will rig tomorrow.

Apart from that, very pleasant trip, relaxing. Plan to head on to Panama on Monday.

:encouragement:

People used to write books about crossing the Atlantic.........all seems to be diff end now
Used to buy books about liveaboard stuff not that long ago, was leafing through one the other day, by the couple from Portmadoc SC. Seems so old fashioned now, lists of tools, lists of what food to take etc!

I must say that after sorting the gen halyard and doing boat jobs this morning, its rather nice relaxing in the St Lucia sunshine with an ice filled rum and ting and cricket on........
