Preparing for an Atlantic Adventure and Beyond......

Cheers! Its a challenge with those currents swirling. :)

How is Vista Mar? Mr. T is looking for somewhere at reasonable cost to stay for a few weeks?

Vista Mar is very reasonable £110 a week for a 50 footer , bit windy at the moment , 10 minutes to good provisions , swimming pool on site , golf course if that’s your thing and a bar ... I am waiting on a couple of bits in from the UK then I am out of here for Galapagos... this side there is nowhere else and I can recommend , everything you want before a long run ...

Thanks thats great. Looks like the destination after the mandatory celebration in the Balboa Yacht Club!

Nice brisk sail today, everything so far working.

Tomorrow, slip and proceed. :)

Thanks chaps, hope to get off around 1030........after that supermarket run!

Should get a few days good shove towards Mindelo, mebbe 8 days.

Adios!

The big blue sea is big, but not necessarily blue.......and absolutely no sign of the butter melting.

But we are in a tad windy Mindelo! Arrived last night, had near gale force winds for the past couple of days but 'up the chuff' so great mileage. Awesome to round the headland into the harbour at eight knots. Not much shelter here so anchored last night and shifted to marina this morning. Big changes since I was last here but still delightfully scruffy. Inward clearance easy and Marina staff brill.
Got bombarded by a squadron of flying fish on the way in so fish scales everywhere. Isn't it interesting to see someone pick up their first live fish, didn't know who squirmed most...
Anyway, had briefed blokes (Australian for crew) that something always goes wrong on the first day. I didn't exactly budget for the house batteries dying after four hours though, this on a boat that has spent two months sailing from Greece to Lanza.
So, an easy pit stop in Puerto Rico on Gran Canaria saw us in, new batteries and out inside 24 hours. Plus a bit of local rum sampling. Just as a comparison to West Indies rum to come, of course.
Oh and a close call with something wrapped on the shiny new propellor about half way here, thanks to Neptune a quick burst of astern revs cleared it and, deeeep breath, gone. Yay. Other than that, a very enjoyable tootle south.
First time I've done this trip in January. Tip. You absolutely need warm lagging. It's been cool during the day and proper cold nights even on last run in. That unusual depression out west Mebbe responsible. Or not.
Trades look set to get back on over next few days so expecting Friday am victuals, PM bunkers and off by mid afternoon.
St Lucia next, Neptune willing!

Tried putting pictures on but failed!

Mindelo news. Standard 907 gas bottle around three euros. Yes, they take them here.

No more wifi in Marina but Marina bar has it free. Much better though in cafe across road from Marina, Mammamia.

It's finally getting warmer but still windy. Looking good for departure after lunch and bunkers tomorrow. :)

Nice day for it.....if 25 knots of wind and overcast is yer bag! Thats not going to change anytime soon so its getawayday.
The marina here has emptied out a bit yesterday and talking around more off today. Reckon mebbe 16 days to St Lucia its around 2100 nm.
Hope yall dont get snowed in!

Boats. Grr. Well i did engine checks this morning. Alternator belt loose......looks like a previous bodged bracket repair fell apart probably on the way in here.
Good is that a welder here is sorting it. Bad news wont be finished til Monday. Thats a lot of time in Mindelo!
Better it went here than out there. Do check your engines!
