Probably.

Saxon Wharf is rammed with cars most of the time, so I’m not surprised. The only times I know I would struggle to park in Hamble are on the day of the RTIR and the weekends of Cowes Week.

But if you have paid for an annual berth you should be able to park whenever you like no matter what events are on, it’s all these non customer visitors who should be parking elsewhere, most just abandon the car wherever they like and jump on a mates boat while the loyal customers who take an annual berth suffer

I’ve also just had the one pass from chichester, when I asked for others, for other cars, I was told that this was feedback from berthholders who couldn’t park near their pontoons so they are limiting it to one per boat. I’ve just left mine loose for now and will take it from car to car, it doesn’t have to be on the windscreen. I’m not amused by it but my theory was they are soon going to get hacked off when all the people coming to the boats continually press the buzzer as they have no passes, be it people out on other people’s boats or owners who left them in another car. Let’s see how it plays out.

Used to love Port Solent. When the barrier said no just back up, turn left over the 3 inch curb and 3 foot of grass later you're in the car park.

I wonder if they will allow people in to park who want to visit the chandlery or the boat house without paying parking ,since being a non boater I’ve visited a few times , if that’s the case it won’t do the on site business any good at all creating a vicious circle .

To be fair to them, I think there are more berths in Port Hamble marina than there are spaces in the berthholders' car parks. So, if every berth is occupied by a berthholder (and not a visitor) and they all turn up for the RtIR, then there is no way that each berthholder could park two cars on that day. I tend to avoid the RtIR weekend, because I don't take part, but I think they do guarantee that a berthholder can have one car in the car park - a second one would have to go elsewhere - and they do indeed keep the visitors out. So that seems pretty good to me.

(I think that RtIR day is the only day they actively manage the parking).

Haslar Marina has got it right IMHO. They have a berth holders car park with number plate recognition (we have two cars registered). Right next to the berth holders car park is a pay and display car park. They also issue two 'crew passes' that allow my guests to park for free in the pay and display when visiting. I think this system works really well although I appreciate they don't have the space constraints of some of the marinas mentioned.

I know of a couple of bertholders who stood their ground and got two. Our battle starts tomorrow!

Out of all the replies, your one stands out as the best example of what chichester has achieved, making the customer pay many thousands of pounds and then feel like they have to go into battle.
My battle will resume tomorrow and im bringing my tank! Well, second car anyway

My simple boatyard has a very effective system based upon your mobile phone. The berth holder submits their number to the database for the electric gate, then you simply call the number and the gate opens. With modern parking systems it would be simple to link this with an ANPR on the car park entry barrier to record the number plate as you enter and log it against you (i.e. your mobile phone number). This can then restrict you to one vehicle, but does not restrict to which vehicle.

Mind you the gate is a bit rude as it hangs up every time without saying hello !

This new parking system would be OK if we were to get a sensible number of permits. One is just plain daft & two is very limiting. I would like at least 3. 1 for me, 1 for my wife and 1 for my son. That still makes it very inconvenient for guests.
Premier need to recognise that we, the berth holders are the paying customers & that Premier are selling us a service NOT doing us a favour!
So far the response I have received from Premier to my request for additional permits has not been satisfactory.

I know Chichester marina to a point. Last time i was there they seem to have redeveloped it and we had lunch at the new restaurant - which was pretty horrid!

I have never been in peak season - but is their policy solving a real problem - ie there are regularly more cars than spaces - or not? If not then of course it is blatant profiteering.

I am currently in Andraxt. This is the only marina I have come across in Mallorca that charges for parking ( there are quite possibly others I have not found!) but in fairness to them the car parking is relatively limited compared to the size of the marina, and peak season is full even with charging ( winter is of course pretty empty!).

Contrast that with Club De Mar. Parking is free, there is a lot of it - but there are also many many cars parked there under a cover awaiting the owners return.
