Yep, 10 - 12 Oct. Jim Irving came all the way down from Scotland and crossed with me. We made a trip of it and went on to St PP.

Yep, 4 -5 April 02.
A strong easterly picked up and most came back by ferry.
I stayed on as I wasn't working at the time. Mark Turner and a mate of mine crossed with me.

The wine is nearly all gone, so I will do an earlier run as our club runs a Cherbourg race in June.
The September trip must stay, it's a lovely end of season jolly, and the June wine will be getting low.

Was it as early in the year as that! No wonder we had the weather we did - as I recall even the crossing back on the ferry was "interesting".

While people post and keep this thread active and in full view we will let the preferred dates question run for a while but I expect to use the thread feedback to determine the preferred date in a few days. At present I count 2 prefer early and 1 prefers late! So if you have a preference in what weekend - state it now.
We can't please everyone and as I said weather is a lottery but my inclination is weather is more likely to be better earlier than later. As the weather gods have been kind - no probably best to say generous - to us these last 5 years we will see what 2013 brings.

Not aimed at you Babylon but I am surprised by the number who book their diaries out a year ahead. Looking at mine there is Christmas day, SWMBO's office party in 2 weekends, Santa special steam train next Saturday and that is it. 2013 is free apart from work.Bummer! Can't do either of those dates this year!

Its the way I've configured my business that's the problem! I close down in early July each so that I have up to nine weeks off to go sailing (as it happens
), but I have to be back in the saddle to start teaching in mid-September. Aside from that - and keeping every other weekend free when I have contact with my young son - I'm not a slave to my diary.Sailfree

In sall fairness to others many have obligations often due to close families birthdays or events like weddings and then there is the uni run with children and luggage for the autumn term. Hence I asked the question.
Trying to arrange it to suit the majority.

I may have to buy a bigger boat. With booze for crew we load up a Van full each trip. I am still working my way through my cellar.
Unfortunately I was recently offered some 2004 Muscadet at a friend house - it was superb. I then had to admit that mine from the same vineyard had nor survived past 2006. Likewise the subsequent years were quickly consummed. My friend has now insisted that following supplies are marked not to be drunk before 2018 etc. I keep looking at these boxes of bottles and am tempted but know that this one ages well.

Perhaps I'll have to offer the load capacities of my fine vessel ... for a small commission of course!
The main problem will be the unload UK side .... as there's only so much you can get in a 10' tender!

Perhaps I'll just put the cases in a waterproof sack, lower them to the seabed and mark them with a buoy - looking like a lobster pot ...
Waddya reckon? Reasonable way to transfer the booze?!
