If I was Garyo I would see if I could put that PB2 voucher towards OBT with Mendez you will learn so much more and Julie may still be your Instructor so a double win.
Cheers

AHH you are only after the ICC then
Tim
All learning is good just not sure of why reluctant to learn on your own boat

The only thing I can add to this is that I did PB2 on a 5.5m rib, then straight onto my 8m sports cruiser. I all honesty, the rib handled so differently to my boat, the training was no help whatsoever in being able to control my boat.
The reason for th increased fee is that the cost can be split between 3 for a Powerboat and 5 for a motor boat so it becomes very cheap .I agree with you whole heartedly in that it makes sense to do a course where possible in a boat of similar size and configuration to your own or indeed, your own boat but for me, I've had Bizzy Bee for over a year now and am very comfortable in handling her as I was with the previous boats so I don't really need a course to achieve something I've already achieved if you know what I mean.
I'm really seeking experience of techniques that I can transpose to my own boat, in particular the MOB routine and anything else I've not covered on the day skipper theory course. I realise it may be a bit zzzzzzzz when it comes to some of the stuff such and launch and recovery but I am willing to sit through that to get to the bits of interest and as Tim has mentioned, getting a fast track to an ICC is also important to me.
The other thing about own boat tuition is not just the increased tuition day rate but also your own go juice and (apparently) the need to feed your instructor whilst on boardfor me, I cannot justify that increase in expense for what i'd get from the experience. I think it's also fair to say, that if this wasn't a groupon offer, I wouldn't be doing the PB2, the reduced cost of the course has made it attractive for me.

But all learning is good so enjoy the course not sure why you have to feed the instructor usually I buy the client lunch.

I appreciate pretty much everything you've said, particularly in terms of cost. My only concern for you is that £150 where you're unlikely to learn anything you don't already know is still expensive, although to be fair, I did have a blast on my PB2 and enjoyed every moment. £150 for 2 days on the water isn't bad value!
In terms of the MOB, it was relatively easy on a rib but I think perhaps a little harder on something like your S28 or my Monterey 250, mainly because it's much higher up. MOB on the rib was picking up a person (or "Bob" - a fender) over the side, which is impossible on my boat. I'd have to pick them up from the swim platform which would be a little harder. And just mentally, I think aiming an inflatable rib at someone is easier than a hulking great 3 tonne plastic motorboat. It se
I felt that PB2 didn't really prepare me adequately for taking a boat to sea. I was bricking it on my first outing on my boat! Although I did manage it without killing myself/anyone else so I guess something must have struck home.
Roy is a generous guy as you say.fully understand and appreciate that Tim, I'd however be on my tod so I'd foot the full bill. on the lunch front, you're clearly telling porkies, I've seen the pictures of Roy buying you lunch admittedly on a delivery trip and also admittedly, lunch was wine gumsI have heard from another forum member of needing to buy lunch for the instructor which did surprise me (it wasn't you obviously)
I'm not sure ( apart from the ICC) of te value you would get from the PB2, I'm sure for £150 you could get a trainer on board to work on the things you feel you want specific training on. I agree the PB2 is great fun and would enjoy the day out myself again! but would I gain much, I don't think so. Give the ticket to Debs, She will then have the ICC for your hire requirements. BTW I can chuck you in next time we meet and do MOB as many times as you like-no charge....
Do the Helmsman course + 1 extra day you can apply ICC 10+ details on the RYA website free to members and valid for 5 yearsSlight thread drift, but can I convert our PB2s to ICCs up to 10m - and if so how do we do it? Also is it mandatory that I need the "longer" ICC if we take ours to the CI's and Northern France ? We are 12m..

Just a win/win situation, shame about Debs, she would have a ball, Marianne did and wants to do it again, if you could get an all girl crew up together with Julie.....already asked if Deb wants to do the PB2, she's not interested which is a shameisn't MOB supposed to have a recovery factor as well as giving you the pleasure of hoofing me overboard?
