Re: Ellen on TV - Post Mortem
Seemed to me like a pretty decent effort from over 25 hours of material which EllenMac recorded.
What I thought demonstrated her driven nature most was this: she was fine surviving technical problems, out-running 80 knot winds and falling off waves not knowing if a capsize was imminent. When she really fell apart (and said she screamed to the heavens) was in the South Atlantic when the boat was not able to sail effectively because of the weather patterns. Then she didn't sleep because of danger, but because the boat wasn't performing in the way she wanted -or needed. Interesting.
My take on the hype and exposure is this:
-I still see and hear about World Cup 1966 and its team, so 3 weeks of EllenMac seems nothing to me
-Adulation for EllenMac is nowhere; see Beckham-magazine.com, or celebswelove.com etc etc etc for massive and ridiculous worship of (imo) people with dodgier credentials
-99.9% of sailors are understated, mud-loving low-key folk that delight in their love of the water and boats, not unconditional achievement of sequential goals, so they might well not approve of the 0.1%
-I don't know, but I reckon Ellen probably loathes the level of attention she has to put up with.
B&Q Castorama does have 2 tillers...it was that strange orange contraption you saw.
