Ports in a storm

> Bear in mind that its pretty sheltered in the Solent, so remember not to use that as your judge of the conditions!! <

Interesting just how misleading the settled waters of the Solent can be. Just two years ago this month, I was looking out from Yarmouth Harbour, and reckoned that if a pebble could be thrown in, it being so calm, one would see the ripples.

So we left to return to Poole. Reaching the Needles however, the weather was so vile we ought to have turned back - others did. We should have likewise. Not a voyage I will forget.

If it's dodgy, I normally hug the coast and use the north passage. Cons are a longer passage and the pots off hengistbury head. Pros are that more of the bone china tea set arrives intact at the other end, but only sometimes: what's a bit depressing is if you pass the Needles thinking it will get better .. and it doesn't! Crash bang splash all the way, and doesn't matter much which way you go.
