IMHO you should avoid painting that locker because the anchor chain rubs the paint off which then blocks the drain hole. In a heavy sea, the locker will then fill with green briny. Not a nice idea

Naw they look luvly painted wiv a stripe stuck on in em! But there again in Essex we like to be flash! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

The Scottish anchor thing

You could be right about the Scottish thing. I've sometimes wondered if it's to stop ladders scatching the gelcoat when our anchors are half-inched.

Tongue in cheek In my case if you dont paint the locker then the steel rusts & there is a chance the chain would drop overboard.

no drain hole, as seperate watertight compartement goes well below waterline (wouldnt want to carry all the weight of 100mtr above waterline) served by one of the 5 sections of bilge pump gallery, has a good feature that the chain can be washed in fresh water, by back flushing and pumping.
