My polycarbonate windows have gone cloudy on the outside due to scuff marks from shoes etc. Does anyone know if it is possible to polish the marks out and then lacquer them?

Thanks

Yes you can polish them - you can actually treat them like GRP and sand them through finer grades, right up to 3000 grit (wet and dry , light pressure so as not to generate heat and actually melt the surface) and then there are a number of T Cut type liquid polishes to finish off with specially designed for plastic . Google for specific brands (as I'm not on the boat I can't for the life of me remember which one I used but worked well and was whatever the chandlery had in)

I've polished all mine using an electric orbital polisher with the same cut & polish I use on the cars.

My kit contains products from Novus, Autoglym, Koch Chemie etc. I heard even toothpaste works.

Definitely don't put any laquer on afterwards. Wax and buff makes the water bead off and future cleaning easy.

Thank you. The mention of a laquer is from when I first purchased the windows which was from a specialist broker unfortunately no longer in business.

It was a small business who dealt with another small specialist manufacturer of windows for racing cars, high-end motor vehicles, protective barriers for taxis and buses etc. (The manufacturer, being a small business, found taking general calls for orders too time consuming and reduced his output hence using a broker who was the only person making telephone calls and placing orders etc. I assume this was different with the more complex production he was doing). Anyway, I was asked at the time if I wanted the windows sent away to be laquered, somewhere abroad I think but I can't be sure as it was a long time ago, in order to protect them from abrasion and scratching which made sense if you were making vehicle windows.

You comments are very helpful and welcome. Thank you
